For those watching Janet Yellen's speech this evening, the fact that she seemed to struggle towards the end of her speech was a surprise. Now we know why...

As MarketWatch's Greg Robb noted, Yellen faltered at end of her speech. Last page was agonizing. I don't think she felt well but she seemed better when she left the stage.
Bloomberg reports, Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen is resuming her planned schedule after feeling unwell toward the end of a speech she was giving Thursday at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, Fed spokeswoman Michelle Smith said in an e-mailed statement.

I am not one to usually be into conspiracies etc but I will throw this out FWIW ... This democrat administration has added so much debt that it cannot afford to have interest rates rise due to the impact on interest. Interest alone would consume much of the budget. Clinton had refinanced a lot of debt to short term. Not sure where that stands right now and how much low interest rates were locked in during Bush & Obama administrations
I would not be surprised if the Fed is under immense pressure to NOT raise rates. Pressure like that can take many forms ..

There is now nothing the Fed can do to avoid an economic catastrophe... I’m sure she knows this and is wringing her hands over it.
It may well be that the democrats don’t really want to win the presidency in 2016. Much easier to let a Republican in and sit on the sidelines and attempt to blame him/her for the disaster. Now the question is - can they stave off this looming disaster until a Republican takes office????

The Fed does not lead in raising rates. It is almost always true that it follows the capital markets., i.e. the bond market, in raising interest rates.
