Don't Catholics believe their Pope is Christ on earth? So no need to talk about Christ, ask forgiveness of Christ or salvation from Christ, because they have the pope to confess and believe in?

I don't know, but I did not hear him mention Jesus Christ our Lord (God) and Savior. Nor do I hear many Catholics mentioning Him, they are OK with confessing their sins to a man, blasphemous. Since when can a man dressed up and with schooling forgive our sins?
