We Americans do show compassion. Encouraging our neighbors to use the proper legal channels to enter America, just as our forbearers did with pride and honor, teaches them one of the most important lessons about becoming an American. First, we play by the rules and obey the Law.

Were we not to discourage illegal entry and occupation, we would be condoning, and aiding and abbetting by willful comission, the turning of these otherwise good people into criminals as their first act on American soil.

That would be the least compassionate thing we could do.
