Stampede kills hundreds at Hajj pilgrimage

(CNN) —A stampede during one of the last rituals of the Hajj season -- the annual Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca -- has killed more than 300 people and injured 450 others in Saudi Arabia.

The stampede occurred Thursday during the ritual known as "stoning the devil" in the tent city of Mina, about 2 miles from Mecca, Islam's holiest city.

Hundreds have been killed in past years during the same ceremony.

"We have a stampede accident in Mina, and civil defense is dealing with it," said Brig. Gen. Mansour al-Turki, an Interior Ministry spokesman.

The ministry said the latest death toll is 310, but the numbers have been climbing steadily. Officials deployed 4,000 workers and 220 ambulances and other vehicles to Mina to help with the disaster.

In the ritual, crowds of pilgrims throw stones at three pillars, in a re-enactment of an event when the Prophet Abraham stoned the devil and rejected his temptations, according to Muslim traditions.

The ceremony was the scene of stampedes and hundreds of deaths in the 1980s and 1990s as pilgrims passed a crowded bottleneck area leading to the small pillars on the ground.

In 2006, a stampede there killed at least 363 people.

This is hot on the heels of the lightning hitting the crane and it falling on a group of them the other week.

I saw that as God sending them a warning. This incident yesterday surely is their second warning from God.

Turds are confined to septic tanks then decay or sewage treatment plants. Sometimes turds fertilize the soil.

In the end, turds are somewhat beneficial. The question is, what is beneficial about Islam for the human race?

To any lurkers out there who respect this belief; what has Islam given to humanity once they "shook off" the Heliocentric influence (Scalpels, algebra, etc...) that dominated their progress until the latter part of the Middle-Ages? Once Europe discovered the New World and created a logistic stronghold, the Ottoman Empire was no match for them anymore. So quit your Islamic progress canard; Islam at its root is just a death cult.

I must regress in my own description; hurricanes do serve a purpose after all since they are a good source to replenish the water supply. So I yield to GraceG’s description unless black holes ultimately serve a positive phenomenon to the human race.

If so, the default position will be that Islam is just a dingle berry from Satan's bunghole that was allowed to be picked and flicked onto human history.
