New York billionaire entrepreneur Donald Trump says he can potentially save the United Nations $1 billion. Could it be a case of unexpected humanitarianism, hyper-aggressive business, bravado, or perhaps all of the above?
In an interview with ABCNEWS.com, the real estate and casino mogul says the perpetually cash-strapped organization has massively overvalued the preliminary projected cost for renovating and expanding its 50-year-old historic headquarters on the East River in Manhattan.
A U.N. study released last year estimated it could cost from $964 million to $1.054 billion to renovate the complex over a 6-year or 12-year period, plus up to $500 million more in interest payments on loans. The cost, theoretically, would be borne by member countries including the United States.

I’ve seen folks make an argument that we need to keep the UN around before. In some ways it makes sense. In others, it’s such a problematic anti U. S. institution that I question if it’s worth anything at all to us.
The U. N. is as reflexively anti U. S. as the most citizens of the U. S. are reflexively pro Israel.
It’s just a diseased organization right down to it’s child raping “piece keepers”. Yes, I meant that word.
Maybe we could compromise and just give the City of San Francrisco to the United Nations. Let all the perverted denizens of that Sodom on the Bay become ‘international’ residents.
My thoughts lean toward giving the U. N. the plot of land that is as far out in the Atlantic as the Palestinians want to drive Israel to in the Mediterranean.
He could save the US at least that much by evicting the UN completely, lock, stock & barrel. I hear Russia’s nice, or how about Ukraine?
Trump doesn’t get it. The object is not to save the UN money, the object is to get the UN out of the US.
