Fox News: We pulled the plug on Trump before he declared that he was boycotting us; Trump responds
Hotair ^ | 09/23/2015 | AllahPundit

Posted on 09/23/2015 5:13:14 PM PDT by SeekAndFind

This just arrived in my inbox from a Fox News spokesperson in reply to the earlier Trump/Fox post this afternoon. As the poet Aretha Franklin famously said: Who’s zoomin’ who?

“At 11:45am today, we canceled Donald Trump’s scheduled appearance on The O’Reilly Factor on Thursday, which resulted in Mr. Trump’s subsequent tweet about his ‘boycott’ of FOX News. The press predictably jumped to cover his tweet, creating yet another distraction from any real issues that Mr. Trump might be questioned about. When coverage doesn’t go his way, he engages in personal attacks on our anchors and hosts, which has grown stale and tiresome. He doesn’t seem to grasp that candidates telling journalists what to ask is not how the media works in this country.”

They don’t say why they canceled his O’Reilly appearance but the implication, I think, is that they were punishing him for dumping all over O’Reilly and Megyn Kelly on Twitter on Monday night. In other words, they decided to boycott him before he decided to boycott them. Whoever started it, it’s worth noting that Fox didn’t break into their usual coverage this afternoon to air his speech in North Charleston. If that’s the sign of a new policy, eliminating all coverage of Trump that isn’t absolutely required for news purposes, we’ll soon have an answer to the question that’s hovered over the Trump/Fox bickering since it began, namely, does he need them more than they need him or vice versa? He’ll still have his megaphone at CNN and on broadcast news outlets but he won’t have the same pipeline to a Republican audience without FNC. And if his polls start to slip and/or Fox’s ratings show no signs of weakening without him, it’ll undercut one of the core parts of his appeal, that he’s immune to normal political forces. Ace:

Trump took a big drop in support after the second debate, falling from 32% to 24%, according to one poll. That would be a bad thing for anybody, but it’s particularly bad on a candidate who relies so heavily on the idea that because he is #Winning, he deserves to win. Take that away, and he’s only got an immigration plan for back-up…

Speaking for myself, Trump’s nigh-invulnerability to conventional attacks made him a much more appealing candidate — after all, how many times have you seen a candidate that the media just couldn’t scratch? That’s a powerful appeal — it’s just an extraordinary thing you’d like to see more of…

But Trump seems to have had not actual invulnerability, but just a fearsome amount of armor and resistance (I can’t help putting this in D&D/videogame terms). And he seems to be on the brink of exhausting that.

Trump’s the Green Lantern. Who wants to read a comic book about the Green Lantern once he’s lost his superpowers?

We’ll see what happens. O’Reilly, if not Kelly, will probably have something to say about this tonight. In the meantime, CNN might seize this an opportunity to boost ratings by luring in Trump fans with even more coverage of him — assuming that’s humanly possible. In lieu of an exit question, here’s a photo from Trump’s North Charleston event that’s being passed around on Twitter right now. Proof that Trumpmania is starting to break or just proof that it’s hard for anyone to fill a room in the middle of a weekday?

Update: The press-release ping pong continues.

Update: A reader points out that today’s event is actually part of the annual meeting of the Greater Charleston Business Alliance and South Carolina African American Chamber of Commerce, which is likely to be a tough draw for any Republican.

Update: The same reader follows up to note that Trump will be Sen. Tim Scott’s guest at a town hall in South Carolina tonight at 6 p.m. Will Fox News cover it? Will CNN?

LOL! I can’t wait to hear what he says to CNN and MSNBC about the low class Rich Lowry and Fox News.

“I think Trump was probably trying to dictate what they could or could not ask him. And they just said “no thanks.”

Like any loudmouth bully used to getting his way, he’s an immediate whiner when somebody stands up to him.”

Like all media outlets, FOX news is animated by ratings and revenue...nothing more, nothing less. This will hurt them more than Trump.

What’s interesting is that Trump has been building the ground work for this for months. Trump’s challenge to CNN to give the profits of the last debate to the vets was part of this. The challenge was maybe done in a half joking way, but the unstated message was, I’m making a lot of money for you guys. if you don’t treat me right, I’ll cut the spigot off. They seem to have gotten the message. There’s a method to his ‘madness’ and carnival barker style.

You can expect both CNN and MSNBC to treat Trump well tomorrow. I’m sure they will enjoy gloating over how their rival FOX seems to be digging a hole for themselves.

Trump is playing Chess while the rest of the field is playing Checkers.

This Rich Lowry guy is also friends with Rick Wilson who said some disgusting things about Anne Coulter and Trump and used a fake rape threat against a child to attack Breitbart. This is the company Rich keeps.

This needs a modernized revamp, but the intent is still the same.

In this case, FoxNews has 24-7 they can aim against Trump.

You are correct that this may not end up helping Trump. If other media see it as weakening his run, they will taste blood. That will make them equally dangerous to Trump's campaign.

“I can’t believe this is going to do any good for Trump.”

And playing nice WILL do good for Trump?

I’m all for honest give and take in order to find out policy positions, etc., but it’s not possible.

We’ve watched this media game for years where they beat down candidates until they’re a bloody pulp, and we’re left with nothing but squishes.

Haven’t we been screaming for someone who can play hardball and beat them at their game? Well, like him or not, Trump is doing just that.

Now that Yeb is tanking they want to force Carly on us. No thanks Fox. I guess everything they said about you is true. You're just a bunch backstabbing rinos disguised as TV “journalists”

Blech

And Fox “journalists” don’t seem to grasp that they are supposed to report the news, not try to invent it and cram it down our throats.
and “journalists” make up lies.

If Trump holds out, FoxNews will see a massive drop in viewership at their next debate.

Upcoming FoxNews/FoxBusiness debates — dates not set yet:

Fox Business/WSJ November
FoxNews January
FoxNews March

==

It will be interesting to see who blinks.

Is FoxNews willing to let a 24-million viewership evaporate into a few million?

Will Trump still be holding out by the time the upcoming FoxNews debates happen?

Who has the most to lose, FoxNews or Trump?

How is Trump going to negotiate all these huge deals with Russia, China, Mexico, etc if he can’t deal with a news network? Putin might not be “nice” or “fair” in negotiations.

What makes you think Trump will be nice or fair? I'm counting on him to win at all costs using all the tricks of his negotiating trade. If that includes whining people to death, I'm OK with that.

What I noticed is - in the photo of the interior of the theater, I’ve seen and been in at least two - numerous times - that looks oddly similar.
Bet there are dozens across the country.
I’m betting an architect drew up the interior of a theater, and it was replicated. Over and over, in all the big cities in the USA.
