TRENTON, N.J. — Gov. Chris Christie wants the leader of New Jersey’s National Guard to shape up.

The governor has given Air Force Brig. Gen. Michael Cunniff 90 days to slim down and meet his obligations.

The action comes after Christie’s staff told The Washington Post (http://wapo.st/1V6jBh9 ) that the governor was unaware the general had been reprimanded by the Pentagon about his weight and for repeatedly dodging physical-fitness tests.

As the head of the national guard, the national guard having national standards set by the DOD, Christie had no choice. It’s no different than an alcoholic telling his child that the child can’t drive under the influence. The information delivered is absolutely correct, whether the parent is a good example or not.

But a governor and a soldier do not need the same level of fitness. Furthermore, I can almost guarantee this General has let people in his command be discharged over fitness standards.

Personally, I could care less have large Christie is...there is no requirement for a Governor's weight...

Also the fact he has been dodging hs physical-fitness tests.

Betcha he would not let those in his command do the same...

I'm not sure why there are so many "look in the mirror" and "hypocrite" comments.

Being a member of the Air Force...for 28 years...I can tell you the general is obligated by Air Force REGULATIONS (AFI 36-2905) to be in shape. Christie is under no such standards (even though he should be).

Legally the general has no choice but to follow the reg which has a waist limit and mandates how often he should be tested.

What REALLY pisses me off is that if I am late for ONE test I get a reprimand. There are NO putting it offs. If I fail...I get put on a program and if I fail 4 in a row I get discharged.

The HYPOCRISY of this general who has probably signed discharge paperwork because people have not met physical fitness standards is INFURIATING.

It's yet another example (and I've seen it before including a former wing commander of mine) of the leadership not following the same rules I (and they) have to.

It's a double standard.

Not a huge fan of Chris Christy but he has taken drastic steps to loose a bunch of weight.

For those who don't know it, the general in question is require by regulation to meet the Army Height Weight standard just like all of the troops he leads and must weight in every six months along with passing a physical fitness test every 6 months.

Hard to enforce the standard if you don't follow the standard yourself.

Yes, Christie is fat. But there is no weight requirement for governor of New Jersey. There is for the National Guard leader. This guy was dodging the fitness test and was out of compliance with the standard. Christie was enforcing a rule. I’m sure he wasn’t doing it to be a hypocrite.

This article is an attempt by the Washington Post to generate laughs and criticism of a prominent Republican. It worked.

Our military is a disgrace.

I would say it is quickly becoming one.

What is this general’s IQ?

What is the standard for generals and their IQ?

They don’t have one?

My, my.

Regardless of job requirements, one big mouth fatso ripping another fatso, for being a fatso, is by definition, hypocrisy.

If you get down on someone for something you yourself are, do, or dont do, you are a hypocrite. It doesnt have to go any further than that.

“Christie, who once called himself “the healthiest fat guy you’ve ever seen,” secretly underwent weight-loss surgery in 2013. A band was surgically placed around his stomach to restrict how much food he could eat.

it does not appear to have worked. “

I know a guy who had stomach surgery to limit his food intake about 10 years ago. He went from 515 lbs down to 260. He’s now back up to 410.

Sorry, but there are different standards in the military than in civilian jobs. If he can’t pass his PT test or height/weight then he needs to eat a salad.
