Ted Cruz vs. Marco Rubio: This Is Where We Are Headed
Red State ^ | September 21, 2015 | Erick Erickson

Posted on 09/23/2015 7:30:33 AM PDT by Timber Rattler

The sharp and rapid rise of Carly Fiorina is, for me at least, another indicator that polling right now is volatile and flawed. I actually think if primary season started tomorrow, we’d find the last men standing would be Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) 100% and Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) 92%, with Cruz having a slight advantage — for now at least.

Cruz and Rubio—I think both are smart, competent, conservative choices. I think Cruz is the stronger of the two, but there are things I like about Rubio in the times I have heard him so far—he’s pro-life, he’s very knowledgeable about foreign policy, etc.

His problem is the infatuation with the amateurs, Trump, Carson, and Fiorina, who are garnering all the attention. Once they fold, one by one, Cruz will rise. We are still a long way away from any delegates being chosen.

Cruz' problem is that he is not connecting with the voters. He comes across as too preachy and zealous. He lacks the charisma and presence of a Trump or Fiorina and the likability of a Carson. The MSM has effectively painted him as "far right" and an extremist. I don't know how he gets out of that box.

If it ever came down to Cruz versus Rubio, Rubio would win and next to Bush, he is the last person I want to see as the nominee.

I think the GOPe may have an even tougher time swallowing Cruz than Trump. He is smarter than all of them, and he’s taken them on IN THE SENATE. Not just on Twitter.

Ya, he was fearless when he voted for the corker bill and TPA.

I don’t think Trump, Carson, or Fiorina will win the nomination, much less the presidency. And history is on my side, as to persons with their particular lack of experience never winning that office. All U.S. Presidents, every single one of them, has first served in one of six positions: vice-president; governor; senator; representative; general; cabinet secretary. The presidency is not an entry-level position.

Rubio supports amnesty and a huge infusion of guest workers. He is bought and owned by his corporate paymasters. The Rubio-Schumer Gang of 8 bill makes Rubio an enemy of conservatives.

I put the noncon blowhard Trump down in the nether regions of Patakistan, as someone I definitely do not support.

Which is the same as saying we are heading for Rubio.

I’m not so sure.

He is assembling his ground game now.

Well, where is it? Who are his state chairs and local organizers? I haven't seen any anywhere. Have you?

Does it concern you at all that he lied on camera to get elected, just for starters?

Has not Trump expressed support for a form of amnesty? That’s what I’ve heard from him when he talks about letting the “good ones” of those who have entered illegally live here.

And history is on my side,

Who would have thought that a black, first term senator, former community organizer with a radical, leftist background and no record of achievement would be elected twice by the the highest vote totals in US history? Was there any historical precedent for that?

All U.S. Presidents, every single one of them, has first served in one of six positions: vice-president; governor; senator; representative; general; cabinet secretary.

Eisenhower? Grant? Washington? Lincoln only had two years in the House.

LOL. I gathered that. I guess if you don't support him, he has no chance.

In other words, I'm going on the basis of what I've heard from the candidates over the last couple of months, in the debates, interviews, candidate forums, etc., from out of their own mouths and from direct quotes and statements I've read. I haven't had time to dig more deeply than that at this point. And the Missouri primary is not until March 15.

What I've heard from Cruz so far greatly impresses me. Rubio impresses me. That's why they're my top two so far.

Eisenhower? Grant? Washington?

Did you notice I listed "general" as one of the six gateway positions?
