Donald Trump has sent the Club for Growth a cease and desist letter aimed at stopping the conservative outside group from airing a set of attack ads against him in Iowa.
The letter comes a week after the Club for Growth unveiled a set of 30-second ads in Iowa attacking Trump as just another politician who supports liberal policies.
"I am not surprised the dishonest, irrelevant and totally failing Club for Growth has resorted to attacking the definitive front runner, especially after I refused to contribute to their pathetic group," Trump said in a statement. "We will be releasing my current tax proposal, which is a major decrease in taxes, in the next week and will continue to expose the two faced hypocrisy of the Club for Growth and the problems groups like this perpetuate within a broken Washington, D.C."
The cease and desist letter argues that one of the ads is not only "disingenuous, but replete with outright lies, false, defamatory and destructive statements and downright fabrications which you fully know to be untrue." The letter calls out the Club's claim that Trump supports raising taxes, arguing the source for that claim is a gross exaggeration. The Club cited Trump's support in 1999 for a one-time 14.25 percent tax on individual net worth and trusts.

“It has to rise to the level of actual malice when a public figure is involved.”
Interesting, I am no expert here, but it sure seems that msm is doing this all the time...
Here is a definition of MALICE:
1: desire to cause pain, injury, or distress to another
2: intent to commit an unlawful act or cause harm without legal justification or excuse
And .. it was a poster on FR who first spotted the irregular printing regarding Dan Rather’s attempt to smear GW, saying his dad had gotten him preferential treatment; and kept GW out of the war. It wasn’t true. GW flew the F104, and they were being withdrawn from VietNam and they wouldn’t let GW go there.
A guy from FOX, he’s not there much anymore; he was the first person who said FR was the group who should get the credit for exposing the lettering problem.
The poster on FR was actually a guy from PJ Media - and now I hear PJ Media has gone lefty on us.
You don’t sound rational to me.
Nobody said you didn’t make money.
How is your money relevant to this discussion?
The only connection anyone can have to reality is their relationship to Yeshua. Try reading the Proverbs; they have a way of jerking a person back to reality when it is least expected.
Your last line sounds like Scientology; not exactly a connection to reality.
.
FR was the site that expose JJs affair. A Freeper had driven by his office and noted a commotion
We were birthers before Hikkary shhhhhh One of our members had been a missionary in Kenya at the time of 0 birth and we spent hours collecting materials only to have the site disappear before our eyes. There were several articles in the news when he was Senator
We had freepers in Rome with selections of Popes. Reports coming from all over the world , from war zones Remember the scientist who report from the coast of California. Desperately trying to get hold of Houston when there space ship went down. So much often first hand experiences Now the research into the archives of the net is not subject to the manipulation it once was
You seem to think that one has to be in NYC to know anything about Trump.
That is absurd.
In defamation law, "actual malice" is knowing something is false, and publishing it anyway; or, having a reckless disregard for the truth and publishing anyway.
The legal meaning of “actual malice” is completely divorced from the normal meaning of “actual malice.” They mean two different things.
In defamation law, “actual malice” is knowing something is false, and publishing it anyway; or, having a reckless disregard for the truth and publishing anyway.
Ok, thanks... And isn’t this what we see all the time with the msm? Especially with the way they are going after Trump?
It is actually very common to send a cease and desist letter. What would not be so common is if a lawsuit is actually filed.
NYC was poison. The politics went back hundreds of years.
To Boss Tweed, or even earlier.
Trump went in there and made a fortunechanged the skyline.
How any human being could do that is beyond me.
*******
It is beyond me too, and I worked with high end commercial RE developers for 25 years in Los Angeles.
Only a bona fide genius could do what Trump did.
A remarkable confluence of intellectual brains and street brains.
He is brilliant.
I applaud Trump for going after these scummy liars legally. He’s threatening them with the power of his purse, something our RINOs in Washington are too cowardly to do. Those who falsely smear another’s record like the Club for Chinese Growth is doing should be subject to civil liabilities, not immune just because the person is a politician or celebrity.
If Trump actually ever filed a libel suit over these ads, he would probably be the one in trouble. Filing a frivolous lawsuit against someone, one in which there is no reasonable chance of winning, simply to cause them great financial hardship as a result of defending themselves, especially when you intent is to prevent them from participating in a public debate (such as a political campaign) is considered a SLAPP suit. Trump could get hit with sanctions, attorney fees and significant punitive damages. Anti-SLAPP statutes are written specifically to discourage and punish the kind of lawsuit Trump is threatening. And if you think the lawyers for the CFG don't know that, you are sorely mistaken.
Yes, we don’t need no stinkin’ eggheads. Donald’s da brain or he can hire da brains.
I think the defamation/libel approach may be a ruse for setting up the Club for Growth for extortion charges.
Jesse Jackson tapped out corporations for decades just like the Club for Growth is trying to do to Mr. Trump.
And the letter from Mr. Trump does specifically mention extortion.
TWB
“I think the defamation/libel approach may be a ruse for setting up the Club for Growth for extortion charges.”
Yes
From 3 to 5%....LOL
No they're not. That's silly.
MD, I think it's safe to say that your comment went over Resettozero's head. It was priceless for those of us who got it.
You think it is now safe to say?
No Trump. No Jeb.
