Donald Trump has sent the Club for Growth a cease and desist letter aimed at stopping the conservative outside group from airing a set of attack ads against him in Iowa.
The letter comes a week after the Club for Growth unveiled a set of 30-second ads in Iowa attacking Trump as just another politician who supports liberal policies.
"I am not surprised the dishonest, irrelevant and totally failing Club for Growth has resorted to attacking the definitive front runner, especially after I refused to contribute to their pathetic group," Trump said in a statement. "We will be releasing my current tax proposal, which is a major decrease in taxes, in the next week and will continue to expose the two faced hypocrisy of the Club for Growth and the problems groups like this perpetuate within a broken Washington, D.C."
The cease and desist letter argues that one of the ads is not only "disingenuous, but replete with outright lies, false, defamatory and destructive statements and downright fabrications which you fully know to be untrue." The letter calls out the Club's claim that Trump supports raising taxes, arguing the source for that claim is a gross exaggeration. The Club cited Trump's support in 1999 for a one-time 14.25 percent tax on individual net worth and trusts.

Trump having the $$$ to fight back without ever relenting is a huge plus :)
Neither approach is mutually exclusive. A blast of vitriol, a cease and desist letter, THEN sue them.
Yeah!
It’s hard to dislike someone who goes through all this effort to make all the right enemies.
Touchy, aren’t we, Donald?
The truth hurts ...
You may not get it...but it's working.
And unfortunately for you...it will work all the way to the WH.
That said, you'll come around. You'll just be wondering why it took you so long.
I doubt he’d sue solely for slander. Probably extortion as well. Get a creative lawyer and they’d probably find some other things.
LOL
I lurked for a few years before joining. Didn’t like the furniture throwing, so refrained from getting a site handle.
LAWYERS....just a wild guess.
He is a master strategist. If it makes sense, he will simply post a video on Istagram hitting the CFG where it hurts.
I am just about through reading "The Art of the Deal"...great insights into Trump's strategy--NYC real estate is much tougher than DC politics.
I say this as a former Wall St investment banker.
Washington has no idea how tough NYC is. And real estate is the toughest game of all.
Trump fires on all cylinders...and he's gonna show Washington what it's all about.
“Washington has no idea how tough NYC is. And real estate is the toughest game of all.”
100% NAILED.
"You rang?"
Trump has advocated higher taxes, he’s advocated for universal health care, and expanded government powers to take private property. So which one of those were they lying about...because he recently said he wants ‘healthcare for everybody’,....and that he was going to raise tax’s on Wall St. guys and imports....and as much he believes that if someone is building a company that each case has to be looked at but he favored business because it creates jobs.
So what’s the problem here...they’re right in the aid...??
As the article notes, there is zero chance that any such lawsuit would prevail - in fact, it would immediately be thrown out. You just can't successfully sue someone for the content of a political ad, even if what they say is completely untrue. And what the ads say isn't untrue - they are stating Trump's own positions. He is just saying that he no longer believes those things, and that makes it libel.
It would be like Rubio suing someone for libel for saying that he supports amnesty because he supported the Gang of 8 deal, on the grounds that he now says he no longer supports amnesty, so to say that he does is lying.
Dr. Raoul (RIP) followed Hillary around on her first book tour dressed as the Devil holding a sign “Bill Clinton married my sister.”
She even got asked about it on National TV.
Are you saying he did both?
But when it came to NYC...no one would touch it.
NYC was poison. The politics went back hundreds of years.
Trump went in there and made a fortune--changed the skyline.
How any human being could do that is beyond me.
My small investment banking group was first in the country by a certain metric (I attribute its success to the team of which I was leader but a small part). We wouldn't know where to even begin in NYC. It is a vast swamp of politics and graft.
Only a bona fide genius could do what Trump did. And he makes it seem simple.
It was not simple.
You are not a NYer are you?
And if he did, many "conservatives" here would cheer him for his savvy and political acumen for buying those judges in advance...
