Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) is calling on Republicans to repudiate Ben Carson's remarks that Muslims are not fit to be president.
I call on every Republican to denounce Ben Carsons disgusting remarks, Reid tweeted on Monday. That shameful intolerance and bigotry should have no place here.
Kareem Khan sacrificed everything for his country, he added, tweeting a picture of a grave bearing that name. Shame on Carson for denigrating him and all Muslim Americans.
Reids Twitter photo shows a memorial for Kareem Rashad Sultan Khan, an Army corporal who lived from Feb. 12, 1987 to Aug. 6, 2007.
The memorial notes that Khan received both the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Earlier Monday on the Senate floor, Reid criticized the Republican Party's attitude toward Muslims.
Sadly, though, Dr. Carsons remarks are just another example of a Republican candidates refusing to speak for three million Muslim Americans, he said.
If these Republican candidates are incapable of going to bat for Americas Muslim community then they shouldnt running for president of the United States, he continued.
Republicans should open their eyes and take note of the contributions of our nations Muslim community, the Nevada lawmaker added. Until they do that, none of them will be worthy of leading this nation.
Carson sparked controversy on Sunday by declaring that Muslims should not be president.
I would not advocate that put a Muslim in charge of this nation, the retired neurosurgeon said on NBCs Meet the Press. I absolutely would not agree with that.
He doubled down on those views in an exclusive interview with The Hill later that evening.
I do not believe Sharia is consistent with the Constitution of this country, Carson said, citing certain interpretations of Islamic law.
Muslims feel that their religion is very much a part of your public life and what you do as a public official, and thats inconsistent with our principles and our Constitution, the former doctor added.
Carsons comments brought bipartisan backlash on Monday, including from many in his own party. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) said there was no religious test for public office in the Constitution.
And the White House also slammed the remarks, with press secretary Josh Earnest calling Carsons comments entirely inconsistent with the Constitution and freedom of religion.
Carson presently ranks second out of 16 candidates for next years GOP presidential nomination across multiple national polls.
He commands 18.8 percent voter support, according to the latest RealClearPolitics average of polls .
The damned Mormon Church should excommunicate Harry!
He has our best interest at heart.../s

Ali al-Ahmed, a leading Saudi scholar and the director of the Institute for Gulf Affairs, put it bluntly in Foreign Policy magazine. Blacks, who make up around 10 percent of the population, are banned from judgeships as are women and Muslims who observe a different version of the faith because the monarchys religious tradition still views blacks as slaves, other Muslims as heretics, and women as half human. There is only one word to describe such a system: Apartheid.
Is this what the media and Ben Carsons conservative critics want him to endorse? Islamic Apartheid? Racial inferiority? Sharia slavery?
Is this what tolerance looks like today.

Michael Medved echoed Reid’s sentiments at noon today. I was going to give him a chance today but I lasted 45 seconds listening.
Thanks for linking that, Daniel Greenfield is right on the mark.
Doesn’t this go against his oath of office?
And if you swear to uphold the Constitution and you don’t, isn’t that treason?
Just asking.....
A muslim who follows his religious writings to the letter to wage Jihad against all non-believers and forcibly establish sharia law everywhere is not fit to be a leader of any kind in the United States.
Yes he is - thought you would like it..
FU Harry and company! Carson is so much smarter than you are. He doesn’t need to be schooled by the demoncrat party. You guys are going to get many Americans killed one day because you refuse to acknowledge things as they truly are. Many people think that it’s too risky to put a Muslim in the WH, regardless of the fact there are some nice ones. WHY ARE THEY EVEN asking this question?
And this is what those biatches want to focus on...forget that this country needs to talk about getting out of debt, creating jobs, bringing back manufacturing, guarding against terorrism, protecting our borders, exposing and doing away with the corruption, taking better care of our vets, making sure our military is strong. NO what these loonys want to talk about are homosexuality, people who dress funny and their “rights”, and making sure a candidate running for president would vote for a Muslim to be POTUS.
They holler about the separation of church and state well why are they EVEN asking this QUESTION if they want to keep it separate???
Oh my gosh, that’s goooood. You should call the aids to your favorite Republican candidates right now and suggest they should go with this! I’m serious. The dems fight this way, let’s give it right back at them.
