Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) is calling on Republicans to repudiate Ben Carson's remarks that Muslims are not fit to be president.
I call on every Republican to denounce Ben Carsons disgusting remarks, Reid tweeted on Monday. That shameful intolerance and bigotry should have no place here.
Kareem Khan sacrificed everything for his country, he added, tweeting a picture of a grave bearing that name. Shame on Carson for denigrating him and all Muslim Americans.
Reids Twitter photo shows a memorial for Kareem Rashad Sultan Khan, an Army corporal who lived from Feb. 12, 1987 to Aug. 6, 2007.
The memorial notes that Khan received both the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Earlier Monday on the Senate floor, Reid criticized the Republican Party's attitude toward Muslims.
Sadly, though, Dr. Carsons remarks are just another example of a Republican candidates refusing to speak for three million Muslim Americans, he said.
If these Republican candidates are incapable of going to bat for Americas Muslim community then they shouldnt running for president of the United States, he continued.
Republicans should open their eyes and take note of the contributions of our nations Muslim community, the Nevada lawmaker added. Until they do that, none of them will be worthy of leading this nation.
Carson sparked controversy on Sunday by declaring that Muslims should not be president.
I would not advocate that put a Muslim in charge of this nation, the retired neurosurgeon said on NBCs Meet the Press. I absolutely would not agree with that.
He doubled down on those views in an exclusive interview with The Hill later that evening.
I do not believe Sharia is consistent with the Constitution of this country, Carson said, citing certain interpretations of Islamic law.
Muslims feel that their religion is very much a part of your public life and what you do as a public official, and thats inconsistent with our principles and our Constitution, the former doctor added.
Carsons comments brought bipartisan backlash on Monday, including from many in his own party. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) said there was no religious test for public office in the Constitution.
And the White House also slammed the remarks, with press secretary Josh Earnest calling Carsons comments entirely inconsistent with the Constitution and freedom of religion.
Carson presently ranks second out of 16 candidates for next years GOP presidential nomination across multiple national polls.
He commands 18.8 percent voter support, according to the latest RealClearPolitics average of polls .

A bit of 2011 nostalgia. Oh wait. He’s still around.
Vile too.
Any Republican candidate who does what Reid suggests will lose a lot of support.
Spare us the hysteric hypocrisy Establishment media.
Your extremist Democrat Party leaders from Harry Reid to Joe Biden routinely engage in the most hysteric demagogic hate speech directed at the Tea Party movement.
When you call your masters in the Democrat party to task for their habitual hate speech, we might consider your view on this topic seriously.
We need to clean house. Get term limits, like we do for the presidency, and then get this country back how it should be.
I’m 99% behind EVERYTHING TRUMP has said thus far. The ONLY thing that I’ve heard him say, or that he was reported to say, was that he’s for ethanol subsidies.
Can I just denounce Reid as a disgusting POS?
Good one.
Oh, you mean the "workplace" violence guy. We can bet 0bama's lapdog Reid did not mention that.
Reid should denounce Hillary Clinton’s lying about Benghazi & about emails, cover-up, obstruction, etc. Until then, Harry shut the hell up!
Harry, your brothel is calling.
So many liberals having seizures over the honest, non-PC remarks made over the last couple of days by everyone from Brian Kilmeade to Trump and Carly to Ben Carson, etc-maybe Harry and the rest don’t realize how many Americans are fed up with their scolding, finger wagging and demands for denunciations and apologies-they have jumped the shark.
Speaking Spanish is an advantage when conveying distain with maximum vulgarity-so as I make the appropriate gesture with a stiff middle finger, I say-vete a la chin*** Harry...
That beat down wasn’t done by an exercise machine-it was done by the minions of some Vegas mob boss that Reid pissed off-I’d put good money on that...
but of course
did you hear the rumor that his own brother worked his ass ?
Yes, I did-given the choice between the brother and the mob, ‘d still put money on the mob, though-that is the way they do stuff when a politico doesn’t come through with a favor-he’s lucky they didn’t kneecap him, too...
oh I am shocked...shocked, I tell you
Carson is right on target. A Muslim who supports Sharia Law is in conflict with the constitution. Will we have women walking around with burkas, being prosecuted for a rape allegation, stoned for adultery, eliminating Christianity, and on and on?
Oops-I forgot to say that apparently Reid didn’t learn anything-he is still out there letting his alligator mouth overload his hummingbird ass-I’m sure that isn’t helping anything.
A rare politician has made more disgusting comments that Harry Reid. He shamelessly lied about M. Romney, then gloated about it. He would have been sued for slander except he hid behind protection for things said on Senate floor. Reid appears mentally ill.
I wish his brother would finish the job and punch him in the other eye.
