...IQ has a substantial direct correlation with measures of success in life, and it is also correlated with a variety of other characteristics that promote success...
...Its not just that the IQ gap in working-class and upper-middle-class communities has gotten wider. The life penalties associated with low IQ have risen since 1960. If you focus on the economic changes since 1960, those with low IQ have faced a labor market in which the market value of a strong back has dropped while the value of brains has soared...
...If you focus on the reforms and social programs of the 1960s, the reductions in immediate penalties for destructive behavior (e.g., doing drugs, dropping out of school, grabbing purses, having a baby without marriage) had the most effect on people who were impulsive, attracted to immediate gratification, and unable to foresee long-term consequencesqualities associated with low IQ. The effects of such changes in incentives among the smart were much smaller....
Well thank you for the compliment but it ought to go to God because that is ultimately what (or Who) I have found it absolutely necessary to engage myself with. I have some, er, “faults” that I am distinctly unproud of, but I have also been encouraged in seeing God’s love rise above those faults and setting me on a different road of thought.
And if so I get a bit ranty about folks damning things without, at the least, a lot of thought... I hope I at least can be understood as to why. I feel like I’ve been unearthing a largely neglected side of Christendom as an almost solo pursuit... almost, but not quite, actually being reminded fairly often by remarks made by preachers and other believers. But while to them it’s hors d’ouvres, to me it needs to be main course. God’s love... no substitute... without it we die... Christ went to the cross to show how large it is....
You defend Him.....and for that....you become a target. We both love Him. So what are we to do?
We keep it up. Maximum flak means we are now over the target.
Lol. I just used that example. For what you do, I offer my admiration and thanks.
Please pray the Lord (and I would for you too) that my intellect gets used for heavenly things rather than hellish ones. People talk about going to hell and never realize they are carrying hell around with them right on earth. People talk about going to heaven and never realize there is a heaven right on earth to embrace and it is called Jesus.
The real education I have been undergoing has not even been one of intellect. It has been one of heart. This is what pushes Christ faith way past where religion can ever hope to go. At such a point all my intellect serves for is to report what got revealed by the light of His love.
Please accept my passing the praise on to the Lord Who is the light behind it all. Not trying to be showily modest here. When the Light finally comes on for me... it comes on. Like mid day. Sins and all, but the sins are now covered in love and I can go a different way now.
Holy mackerel. I never thought of that.
MAYBE it happens. I think there are some rudiments of community morality left even in the relatively gutless society. That they still won’t let their biological brothers be their baby daddies. Their vision is lost in sin, but still sin different from the white side of America. They are also a lot less likely to embrace “gay” and for the same reason.
You did not offend me. I appreciate your response, but don’t sweat it at all.
Take care.
“Why can’t they be like we were, perfect in every way
What’s the matter with kids today!”
PBS did a show “Between Time and Timbuktu”, a sort of mash-up of Vonnegut storylines. I vividly recall the scene of a fleeing Billy Pilgrim being pursued by police with weighted boots, dark visors, and loud radios blasting in their ears to make it “fair”
This decribes my life perfectly. Thank you both. Thanks be to Christ.
“Who would have thought, 30 years ago, that someday you’d carry in your pocket a device that could link you to all of man’s knowledge instantly, and instead, you’d use it to save pictures of cats and to get into arguments with people you don’t know?”
Thank you SkyPilot.
Take care...
