27-Year-Old Video of Donald Trump Surfaces. You'll Want to Watch This.

During a 1988 interview with Oprah Winfrey, Donald Trump discussed the prospect of running for president someday, saying, “probably not, but I do get tired of seeing the country ripped off.”

Though the billionaire businessman admitted that he didn’t have “the inclination” to run, he also said he “would never want to rule it out totally” for the future.

“I just probably wouldn’t do it, Oprah. But I do get tired of seeing what’s happening with this country,” he said.

If Trump was fed up with the state of the nation back then, he must be livid now, which would certainly explain his move to throw his hat in the ring for a 2016 presidential bid.

“Really the KKK, segregation.. against the Civil Rights Act .. the Civil War.. The Federal Reserve, Income Tax.. federal control of Soc.Sec. ENTITLEMENTS.. was not BAD?..”

I’m uncertain what you mean by the line about federal control of Social Security entitlements.

Trump has not totally convinced me yet...I doubt that anyone ever WILL do so again BUT I am considering the possibility that he may be in the mold of some of our earlier presidents who offered themselves as candidates out of a sense of duty rather than a sense of entitlement. Someone said that anyone who really WANTS the job of president should be automatically disqualified on grounds of insanity and I tend to agree. Can we at least hope that Trump is reluctantly willing but does not really want the job? I hope he feels the way I did as a fifteen year old setting out to cut a winter’s worth of firewood by myself with only hand tools, I certainly did not want the job but I was willing to do it and I did.

I see.... I guess it’s getting hard to find got history when the democrats(liberals) have been re-writing some of it.. for 40 years.. in academia..

WHEN; FDR was trying to PASS SOcial Security.. it was debated in Congress.. many(several) plans were submitted including privately controlled(of a trust fund)... which was the best idea.. the best option....

BUT FDR and his commie cohorts. BOGARDED Federal Congressional CONTROL(of the trust fund)... and it PASSED that way.. only later did the democrats openly STEAL all the funds from the trust fund.. without republican help..
The Trust Fund WAS LOOTED... long ago.. and ALL Soc.Sec. fund are payed by the general fund.. THATS WHAT HAPPENED..

TED CRUZ could FIX that with a republican Congress and make it Under private control.. as it should have always been..
Democrats would NEVER allow SSI to be private.. EVERYTHING must BE FEDERAL GIVERNMENT CONTROLLED...

Chile has done this beautifully with their SSI plan and it’s works beautifully.. recipients GET MORE MONEY.. GOV’t still has over-sight BUT IT’S PRIVATE.. HARDER to LOOT.. still possible BUT harder..

As someone about Trumps age, I find it easy to believe his explanation as to why he’s running.

I’ve agonized over the America we are leaving for my own children and grandchildren to live in and raise their families in. Most Freepers here probably feel the same way.

America hardly resembles the one I grew up in. It’s but a shadow of its former self, with freedoms, successes, and world respect all but non-existent.

Trump said he was running so that his family wouldn’t look at him, knowing he could have fixed it, but didn’t.

Now he wants to make America great again.

I think we are but the lucky side beneficiaries.

Don’t forget the TX SS experiment.

During the 1970s there was one county in TX which was allowed SS contributors to opt-out of the normal SS contributions, and instead invest them into other investments, including, I think, stocks, etc.

I think the county was Houston, or included that city.

When Bush ‘tried’ to revamp SS, he never once brought up that experiment. I knew then that he was putting on a dog and pony show, which, at best, would result in joke votes in Congress.

Amazing!! There is NO ONE in DC who is as consistent as Trump is.

From Republican to Democrat to Independent to Republican. Amazing consistency, huh?

Did you watch that interview with Oprah from 1988? Trump’s views are consistent.

Geraldo (I know) on The Five showed a clip of an interview with Trump in 2005. Trump calls it correctly on what would happen from the troop pullout. No foreign policy creed my shiny hiney.

Video at link.

I did. I also know how liberals get elected. They run to the right and to the middle.

There is a wealth of Donald Trump statements about taxes, blaming Republicans for the financial crisis, single-payer health care, Obama cheerleading, eminent domain, self-identifying as a Democrat and now Muslims in a potential Cabinet that are all more recent than this interview.

When Mitt Romney flip-flopped four years ago we were all over him on this site. When Donald Trump does it people won’t hear a word against him.

The intellectual inconsistency is mind-boggling.

I hear ya... Trump however is good entertainment...
ONLY entertainment.. I would’nt be surprised if he was not doing Wassermann-Schutlz in his Trump-O-Flyer..

Trump’s liberal credentials far out-weigh his conservative dream talk..
HOW BOUT we wait.. say..... two years to see IF he’s a genuine (more or less) conservative..

You know............ OR EVEN A RINO.. he might not even be a RINO..
Jeese..

These are desperate times. And Trump, while he has said liberal things in the past, has a heck of a lot more upside than Romney.

True.. “THEY LEARN” not so with republicans evidently..
“THEY” will not try to same gambit twice...

Same with voter fraud.. they are learning.. this time there will not BE... 150% turnout or even 100% as there were in some places in 2012.. They “”LEARN”.. WE DON’T..

The TRUMP Dog and Pony SHOW is PERFECT to scam the republicans even the conservative ones.. its WORKING..

SO much so.. I’m hoping for a 1980 style UPSET...in 2016 for Cruz..
BUT; am not certain it will happen.. the change in “tone” at FR makes me even more uncertain it will happen..
