If John Boehner survives this autumn as speaker, he may owe his job to Democrats.
A group of House conservatives is threatening to try and topple Boehner if he does not risk a government shutdown by making an all-out fight to defund Planned Parenthood this month. Led by Representative Mark Meadows, the conservatives would bring up a rarely-used procedural motion calling for the election of a new speaker. If 30 or more Republicans opposed Boehner, hed need Democratic votes to defeat the motion and retain the speakership.
Its a nearly unprecedented choice for Democrats, and one that the party is just now beginning to contemplate. Would they bail out a man who has stymied nearly all of their legislative priorities for five years? Or would they allow Republicans to depose their own leadera move that might carry political advantages for Democrats but would almost certainly bring about a period of chaos in the House?

well, he’s rescued them plenty of times......
It does seem as if Western civilization is in our death throes.
Based on Boner’s past performance, it wouldn’t much matter if it is the Weeper of the House or the Shrieker of the House (Pelosi) swinging that hammer.
I’d like to see Trey Gowdy elevated to House Speaker.
Huh? What?
Which legislative priorities were those?
Importantly, Democrats have been electing a RINO speaker of the Texas legislature for years.
They figured out that with his small cabal of big city liberal-radical Republican supporters, and all of the Democrats, they have a majority. And once speaker, he has successfully blocked most conservative legislation for gun rights, against abortion, etc.
And you can bet this scheme hasn’t been lost on the Democrats at the national level. Boehner has, in past, crossed the aisle to get Democrats to support schemes for which he cannot muster enough Republican support.
I would not be surprised to see Democrats rescue Boehner as he is their best friend in congress.
Rescue from what?
The “conservatives” in the House are not going to do anything. This is all talk.
It’ all a game at this point.
That depends on whether or not the Democrats think they can get another RINO wuss or crypto-Progressive into the Speaker’s position.
That would be the best thing the Dem/RINOs could do.
The ‘meme’ will be that the responsible ones must work together to save us.
All the media will love it.
It’s an acknowledgement of the end of the Republican Party though, so that’s strong reason for Boehner to compromise with conservatives instead.
He’s one of their most valuable players - they’d be nuts to let him go down in flames. It’s the Repubs that do the dirtier deed by not uniting to get rid of him and McConnell.
They already have rescued him. They rescued him in the vote to salvage his fanny and with their continuing silence they prop him up, free from criticism from anyone on their side of the aisle.
Certainly Boehner makes a quieter Democrat leader than Pelosi ever was, so Democrats in Congress can enjoy getting everything they want with half the noise.
Cool, huh?

What a stupid question, of course the dems will save Boehner, they have already done it.
The Hastert Rule is dead, we need to bring it back and resuscitate it.
If the RATs have to save Boner then he will be little more than a dead man walking, politically, until he’s voted out in 2016!!
Millions of Americans do not even have any idea that their Country is about to end and their wonder life style will go to hell. Where in the hell did these ignorant ars holes come from. Oh, I forgot, liberal educational system and communists MSM.
“Would they bail out a man who has stymied nearly all of their legislative priorities for five years?”
Hee hee hee. They said “stymied”, “Boehner” and “left-wing initiatives” in the same sentence.
“Its an acknowledgement of the end of the Republican Party”
Yes, but I believe as Conservatives, Republicans and Americans we will be better off in the long run with the rinos and rino leadership publicly joining with the democrats.
The GOP should be proud to point out that a government ‘shut down’ does not permanently deny funds being expended. But it should, because that would be a positive effect on our overwhelming debt.
