Fiorina’s rivals may seize on 2010 playbook to exploit weaknesses (Chainsaw Carly, Iran...)
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | 9/13/15 | Carla Marinucci

Carly Fiorina graduates to the main stage for Wednesday’s GOP presidential debate at the Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, but even as she seeks to expand her appeal to voters, the former Hewlett-Packard CEO’s history may come back to haunt her.

That history is laid out in a book prepared by her opposition during Fiorina’s failed 2010 U.S. Senate run against Democratic incumbent Barbara Boxer. It provides a virtual road map that her GOP competitors — and perhaps the Democratic nominee — could use to exploit her weaknesses should she end up on the Republican ticket.

The 218-page opposition research report obtained by The Chronicle was compiled by political research firm Gragert Jones for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee in April 2010.

There are hundreds of news stories, commentaries and data sets outlining what probably will be Fiorina’s lingering vulnerabilities. They include accounts of her turbulent stint as the CEO of Hewlett-Packard, where “Chainsaw Carly” cut 30,000 workers while, critics said, outsourcing thousands of American jobs before taking a golden parachute. And there’s the tale of how during her tenure, an HP subsidiary sold printers to Iran, bucking the trade embargo. Fiorina, who denied knowing about the sales, has harshly criticized the Obama administration’s Iran nuclear deal.

“The playbook to beat Carly Fiorina was written, executed — and it worked,” said a leading GOP operative who now works for a rival Republican presidential campaign and spoke on condition of anonymity. When Fiorina made her political debut in 2010, “Republicans fared pretty well and Republicans were all rooting for Carly,” the strategist said. “But the opposition research against her, and her record at HP, was just devastating in the campaign.”

“If Sen. Boxer could do this to Carly Fiorina in a year where Democrats didn’t fare well” nationally, the GOP campaign operative said, “imagine what Hillary Clinton could do with this opposition research book in this cycle.”

Fio-RINO is the new designated loser for the GOPe to replace Jeb Bush.

Hillary will recycle the Boxer ads that destroyed Carly in California and give Karl Rove and the GOPe the loss they are plotting.

How is it that so many candidates don’t realize that this is a the age of the internet, there are no secrets.

Dr. Ben Carson found that out when he claimed to be pro-close the borders and his videos came up with him talking amnesty, when he claimed to be pro-life and the reports came up of him referring women for abortions.

And now Carly will find it out too.

Chris Christie found it out when his picture of his love fest with obama went viral, Juan Bush found it out when his Spanish video went viral, Rand Paul found it out when his endorsement for Mitch McConnell went viral.

Hillary won’t need to run ads to keep me from voting for Carly. I won’t vote for anyone who says islam is the world’s greatest civilation especially when she said it immediately following 9/11.

I'm still undecided about Carly, but California is no longer a true test of GOP strengths and weaknesses..the population has changed so much that even if Ronald Reagan was magically brought back today to run in California, he would lose..very sad statement about the once great Golden State..

Thanks. Didn’t see that. Another reason why Karl Rove is pushing for Fio-RINO to replace Jeb as the GOPe Designated Loser to Hillary.

A TV ad budget and a handful of p*ssed-off ex-HP employees. THAT’S all anyone needs to take down Fiorina.

Pushing her way onto the debate stage may also come back to haunt her.
