Now that the debate is over, I’ll post my two cents worth.
First, it’s easy to see that Jeb Bush was the big loser: stupid faces, mild manner, said nothing to change people’s pre-existing perceptions of him, something he BADLY needed to keep the backing of his money people.
Kasich didn’t say anything that was particularly intelligent or important. Pretty much just stuck to his canned talking points. Didn’t make a case why he should even be on the stage any longer. I also though Walker gave a weak performance, and made no compelling case why he should be on stage any longer.
I’ll have to say that I don’t take Ben Carson or Carly Fioria seriously, so really am not going to comment about them one way or the other.
I think that Cruz, Paul, Rubio, Cristie, Huckabee all said very intelligent things. Cruz was outstanding and Huckabee refused to take the CNN bait to attack anyone else on stage.
That said, Rubio as we all know is the epitome of a back-stabbing, pseudo-conservative, though the casual observer might not know that.
Trump, of course, was Trump.
just my two cents worth ...
My sentiments.
Enjoyed you easy to read and concise review. I’m curious, is there a candidate you support? I would really like to see a Trump/Cruz ticket.
My only disagreement really is Carson. I thought Carson had a few solid hits.
I will be interested in poll results in a few days, after all the flacks have gone home.
My take on the debate:
Trump was very general, not too specific, but we know he can do the things he says he will, so specifics from a non trained politician may not be necessary. I was a tad disappointed but I enjoyed the moments he was on.
Cruz didn’t get as many opportunities and sometimes he goes too fake politico, the way he raises his eyebrows and looks deep into the camera. But later in the debate he stopped doing that and just got down and brilliant and I liked him as usual.
Chris Christie impressed me on some of his comments. I was surprised at how positive I was feeling about him.
Rubio was passionate and I think did well for himself. BUT I THINK HE IS WEARING A TOUPEE!!! This was very distracting. What is he, 38? Own your baldness, dude.
Carson didn’t impress as much as I had thought, though I love his smarts.
Carly had some great answers. She did well for herself. I grew less impressed with her as the debate went on.
Bush just looks goofy and he still tries to play twentieth century wonk. This year, in 2015, it is not about that. Naming your accomplishments, spitting out facts about your policies. It’s old fashioned. Today we want passion and proof you will dare do what you are talking about. We the public really are out of the closet this year with our hatred and distrust of typical politicians. If he doesn’t get that yet, he is dumb and tone deaf.
Kasich... No. He seems intellectual and apart, but no.
Huckabee? I cannot stand him but I liked a lot of what he said tonight. Somehow.
Paul is so much like a modern version of his dad. Too libertarian.
Did I forget someone? If so, then that says enough.
