'I step aside knowing our party is in good hands, the former Texas governor says.
After months of struggling to gain traction, former Texas governor Rick Perry on Friday said he is suspending his campaign, becoming the first Republican candidate to drop out of the crowded race for the White House.
"We have a tremendous fieldthe best in a generationso I step aside knowing our party is in good hands," Perry said, during an appearance before a conservative conference in St. Louis.
Perry, who has made his mark on the political landscape as the longest-serving governor in Texas history, in recent weeks wrestled with fundraising woes and an inability to break out of the bottom tier during his second presidential run.
"I share this news with no regrets," Perry said, according to the prepared text of his remarks. "It has been a privilege and an honor to travel this country, to speak with the American people about their hopes and dreams, to see a sense of optimism prevalent despite a season of cynical politics. And as I approach the next chapter in life, I do so with the love of my life by my side, Anita Perry. We have our house in the country, we have two beautiful children and two adorable grandchildren, four dogs, and the best sunset from our front porch that you could ever imagine. Life is good. And I am a blessed man."

Wow. Exciting. I wonder who gets his quarter of a percent? Probably Jim Gilmore.

I think Linda Graham has negative poll numbers if that is even possible. She needs to drop out next.

Huh? FR?
See previous post - “huh?” I wouldn’t accuse Perry of that, but of course, I don’t know him personally.
Trump is unstoppable.

I have no idea what you’re talking about.
Texas, with all you grandeur and glory, you have serious issues of which to deal. (God bless you..!)
The latest crack in your armor is electing another Connecticut liberal with the surname of “Bush”. That’d be George “P” Bush.. He’s the son of Pygmy “peggin’” Columba Bush.
I’m ready for the Yankees of New England to bring forth their own version of a Robert E Lee to rally god fearing Americans to reclaim our Nation..!!!
Maybe “he’s bawn” in New Hamshire.. Dunno..!
“A broken clock is right once a day .”
good for Trump. We all knew Rick was going to have to drop out. As will many others.
Ah, this will clear the way for George Pataki to assume the mantle of party leadership!
Great concession speech. Godspeed, Governor.
So are we taking bets on who drops out next?
Are you the last guy to get the message.
Trump's in charge Nick...get use to it.
Rick Who???
“I think Linda Graham has negative poll numbers if that is even possible. She needs to drop out next.”
The last RCP polling average had Jindal and Graham tied at .3%. Perry had .8%.
They didn’t make the ‘cut of eleven”.
Time to go...
