Donald Trump just eviscerated a new [as in,"latest"] GOP rival

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is now tearing into one of the rivals he long declined to criticize: retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson.

In a CNN interview on Thursday, the real-estate magnate attacked Carson's religiosity, persona, qualifications for the presidency, views on abortion — and even his medical record.

"He was a doctor, perhaps an OK doctor, by the way. You should check that out too. We're not talking about a great [doctor]. He was an OK doctor," Trump said.

As a doctor, Carson drew national attention at John Hopkins "by conducting a succession of operations that had never been performed successfully," according to The New York Times, "most famously planning and managing the first separation of conjoined twins connected through major blood vessels in the brain."

Trump said he was criticizing Carson because the retired brain surgeon took a shot at him the day before. CNN reported that Carson was asked at an event how he was different from Trump, and he responded by comparing their faith in God.

"Probably the biggest thing — I've realized where my success has come from and I don't in anyway deny my faith in God," replied Carson, a member of the Seventh-day Adventist church. "By humility and the fear of the Lord are riches and honor and life, and that's a very big part of who I am. I don't get that impression with him."

Some political observers have suggested that Trump could struggle to win over evangelical voters because of his casual public approach to his own religion. For example, Trump has said he doesn't seek forgiveness from God and referred to Holy Communion as eating "my little cracker" and drinking "my little wine."

“Trump thinks he’s bigger than God; his attack on Carson for “religiosity” should tell us what he really thinks about devout people. “

Carson attacked Trump’s faith first. That says a lot about Carson.

I love what he’s doing to the MSM, but things like this prevent me from being sold on him.

“Republican presidential candidates Ben Carson and Donald Trump were criticized by pro-life activists this week after they waffled on their positions regarding abortion, research on aborted baby body parts and funding Planned Parenthood.

After Carson indicated support for the abortion drug RU-486 in the case of rape or incest, Cavuto asked Carson, “At the point of conception do you see that as life Doctor?”

“Certainly once the heart starts beating, certainly at that point,” replied Carson.”

Ben Carson is the Republicans’ equivalent of Jimmy Carter... a good man of faith, well over his head in administrative abilities. Plus, he has the speaking demeanor of Harry Reid.

He would be a disaster...

“Trump’s faith includes mocking the faithfulness of others “

Carson questioned Trump’s faith first. So consider that when defending him. It doesn’t speak well of him either.

I can’t understand the pearl-clutching because Trump is supposedly “coarse” and vulgar. What a bunch of prissy Victorians we have on FR.

I find Trump to be like a cool breeze after a long, hot day of work. I'm so sick of PC! I relish every wisecrack Trump delivers.

Churchill's verbal jabs at people of all stripes was legendary...it was one of his flaws that by some magical twist was endearing. People laughed, once you have them laughing.. you have them. :-)

I smell a set up

Get mean Donald to attack Gentle Ben

Both of these guys should be smarter than to fall for this
Trump gets zero to negative gain for attacking anything about Carson except his breathless inexperience to be a president
Have Yeb’s people approached the good doctor to woo him in return for goading Trump?

“The media are trying to get sound bites from Carson and Fiorina to bash Trump”

Fiorina’s entire campaign has been bashing Trump. Mrs. 3% reminds me of Mr. 3% Ron Paul Jr. Bash Trump and hope and pray it sticks.

I didn’t think Carson, being the nice “christian” he claims to be, would start questioning someone else’s faith, but he did. He thinks he’ll top Trump in next week’s poll. I wouldn’t be surprised if Fiorina and Carson have not already talked to Rupert Murdoch, who wants Trump out of the race. Carson has truly disappointed me. I thought he was above petty attacks. Fiorina is another story. She’s been on mission all her life to prove to the world she can out-due any man. Typical feminist.

No. In your case it’s a benchmark to measure hypocrisy.

Trump is an “OK” billionaire... and an “OK” jerk. Other than that I agree with most of his positions.

I have personal knowledge of a pediatric neurosurgeon who was chairman of a dept. whose colleagues all admitted (privately) that he was a terrible surgeon and not a good person but WAS a good politician. Not saying Carson was good or bad. I don’t know. Assuming he was great because he was the boss could be an erroneous assumption. I recall an essay on “How the asshole got to be boss.”. It happens sometimes.

Any woman running on the Republican ticket will be tagged as either a beautiful bimbo or a homely intelligent older woman. You lose either way as the left’s media will always portray them as such, knowing that voters don’t go beyond the descriptions. In that way, I can see Trumps point. IMO, the Democratic Ministry of Propaganda would love to have Carly as the front runner. Its unfortunate but face appeal has a lot to do with it. Remember how excited everyone was in 2008 over a relatively unkn. short term Alaskan Governor? She got more votes than her front runner.

Carson did, in fact, attack first, belittling Trump’s religiosity. How is it wrong for Trump to respond exactly in kind, but not for Carson, who initiated it. You Trump haters need to back off and think before you rant.

“Trump’s perception is that however humble Carson may appear, he is hiding a secret pride about his work as a surgeon. Ergo, attack at that point.”

Great insight. Hence his pinning the ‘low energy’ label on Jen.

I love that one of our candidates is finally using the Alinsky method. He will need it when fighting the liberals who developed it.

Check this out for Trump’s priorities:

Trump, Coking and the casino authority pounded away at one another in court. Then, one day in the summer of 1998, the Superior Court of New Jersey put an end to the conflict. The court ruled that the casino authority and Trump were wrong. The government couldn’t take Coking’s house and let Trump have it.

“I’d rather see Trump conduct himself as a man who can honor another man for his very obvious accomplishments.”

I keep seeing that on this thread. How on earth is it okay for Carson, and others (Jindal is supposed to join in today) to trash Trump about religion and Trump is petty minded if he just doesn’t stand there and allow himself to be kicked? I don’t understand the logic.

There was a hue and cry about Trump’s enemies launching a full scale attack after Labor Day. It must be his fellow candidates who will be the mouthpieces.
