So sad; I guess he probably considered the notion of repentance and forgiveness, but saw how the liberal media was rejoicing in bringing down people they perceived as hypocrites, chief among them Josh Duggar. I’m sure he believed that even though his wife may have forgiven him, the people in his congregation may not, and the media certainly would not.
It was a devil’s lie that such reconciliation had to be sought in the world, that it could not be had in Christ. This wouldn’t mean instant shangri-la on earth, but that is not what matters in the end. The bible says love covers a multitude of sins and here is where the world so often sadly fails. But when the world has failed, God will step up to a willing believer and comfort away a worldful of pain.
There is always the possibility he was putting people on and fundamentally refusing God all the while, of course. We cannot know. It hasn’t been given to us to say until God makes it apparent at the end.
Will we believe in the capacity of Christ or won’t we. That makes all the difference in the world to how much we see it here. Fail to believe, and we won’t see it. Be earnest to believe, and we will see it.
