Rep. Mick Mulvaney (R-SC), one of the 28 Republicans who publicly supports replacing House Speaker Rep. John Boehner (R-OH)with a Republican alternative, told Breitbart News on Tuesday that Boehner does not have enough support within the Republican conference to win re-election with just Republican votes.
Therefore, Mulvaney said, should there be a vote on a privileged resolution on a motion to vacate the chair of the House of Representativesa fancy term for a vote to remove Boehner from the speakershipthe only way Boehner can keep his job is if Democrats vote for him to bail him out.
The math depends on the Democrats, doesnt it? Mulvaney told Breitbart News in a phone interview on Tuesday afternoon. I think if all the Democrats were to vote against John, hed lose the Speakership, but I dont think anyone knows where the Democrats stand.
Technically, the magic number for Boehner to lose re-election without a Democrat infusion or some kind of shenanigans where members dont show up to vote or something akin to that is 29 Republicans voting against him. There are 28 Republicans publicly opposed to Boehners re-election, but many more privately who have confirmed that they cant vote for Boehner to Mulvaney and others. Many more are teetering on the edge of becoming public, and Boehners team is certainly terrified, as Politicos Jake Sherman and John Bresnahan detailed on Tuesday morning.

He should just quit and get it over with. He is no longer needed or wanted. He just doesn’t have it in him to do the job that needs doing. I don’t think he ever did.
Thanks for posting your letter from Rep Thompson. I don’t have the luxury of being represented by a Republican in the senate or HOR. A lot of people vent their disappointment and frustration but don’t mention if they contacted their congressman or if they received a reply. I wish more people would do what you did.
What a pathetic response. He sounds as weasley and gutless as my own RINO Congressman DeSantis.
Of course the Dems will “bail him out” - he’s one of their best friends.
Unless? Dang, he already has. I want to see that rock you have been hiding under.
same ol song and dance.......
Unless????
Mebbe so.
But it only takes 29 pubbies voting against him to "vacate the speakership" if the Democrats vote against him, too.
And, evidently, there are thirty-some pubbies willing to do it...
So what happens really when there is no Speaker? Other than the fact that Orrin Hatch is second in line to the presidency?
If the Dems are smart they pop popcorn, sit back, and watch the fun.
I would worry a lot more about the FR liberal types on the so called ‘Right’ screaming “lesser evil!” and working to keep him in power so as to not take the blame for the guy they put there getting tossed.
Because they tend to do that to ensure liberals retain control of the party each and every election. We see it here all the time.

Writing most of these guys is a waste of time. The letters are never accounted yea or nay on a given subject much less read. It is merely a feel good jesture (with a J as in ‘jest’)and pressure relief valve to let people think their concerns matter.
Once they did. Today, the party has an agenda and ‘you’ do not matter on any day but election day/. And even then not so much as we see how voting is far from sacrosanct.
If you want conservative governance you elect it. OVERWHELMINGLY so vote rigging is too obvious a counter.
And then that candidate has to win the vote for speaker. So assuming all the Dems vote for Pelosi then it's another situation where 29 Republicans could prevent McCarthy or Scalise or whoever from being elected.

That’s a given. That’s the reason he does what he does and they know it.
Dem’s are no different than any street level pimp/drug dealer and Boehner the whore/junkie. They can get him to do whatever they want him to do.
Alan West...
It’ll be awfully tough to cry RACISM then.
Boner is clearly not a viable alternative to all sorts of Americans.
