I remember a story where a collie jumped into someone’s car and attacked a baby, nearly ripping its leg off. They had to put that dog down.

Poodles attack kids all the time. And the original poodle, is a larger dog that was bred for hunting. They are very aggressive animals. I saw a video once where a full size poodle attacked and nearly killed a pitbull. It was extremely graphic.

But hey, why actually know the facts when you can just spout venom all day. Next time you might want to bring some facts to the conversation instead of just trying to be immature. Your comment makes you look dumb in my eyes. Good luck with the rest of your day...

Very true and well written. I said before if you’re going to adopt an adult dog, you are taking a risk. There is no test that is 100% accurate at determining a certain dogs mentality and behavior.

I love hearing stories about people who adopt an older dog that ended up being a great part of the family, but that’s not for me. I have kids in my house, so when I got a dog I got a puppy that I could train myself.

Your snarky first post didn’t imply that.

That's what you thought because you generally trust pitbulls, and don't understand why anyone wouldn't trust them before they maul someone.

I’ve had Labs all my life. Currently have a 16 1/2 old girl and a 1 1/2 YO pup. They will never let you down.

Actually, I don’t. I wouldn’t own.

He looks just like my boy. Teddy Roosevelt and Helen Keller had Americans. The RCA Victor dog was an American bulldog. Although described as a “pit bull terrier” from his photo I believe the Little Rascals’ `Pete the pup was at least half bulldog.

I had a town marshall come to my door on a barking complaint from an anonymous, hypersensitive neighbor.
Just doing his job but he said, “We had a complaint about your pit bull. I saw him in the yard.”
I told him that my dog wasn’t a pit bull any more than he was a meter maid.

Actually American bulldogs are of two basic varieties: Scott and Johnson. They are what the English bulldog used to be before bull and bear baiting was outlawed in England and fanciers started crossing them with pugs for the genteel, and with terriers for `sportsmen’ for ratting and, sorry to say, dog fighting.

There are certainly some pit bulls that if I came across them on the street would make me pop my thumb strap or my hand would go to my pocket back up gun.
And the really sad thing is that more often that not you know it’s their owners who should be shot.

“A shooting isn’t necessarily a bad thing. It depends on who’s getting shot.”

You’ve put me in a bulldogge frame of mind, servo.

This should trip some anti-Trump circuit breakers:

He’s a real corker—
With hips

Undershot jaw
And big sharp teeth
Like a buzz saw
Behind his black flabby lips.

We had a GSD when my son was a toddler. She was like an extra aunt to him and looked after him.

Oh, yes. My 2 y.o. British lab saved my life when I was 12. Got pulled 400 yds. out by a rip tide on a dropping tide at a surf beach. No one saw me other than her. Without prompting she jumped into the surf, swam out and towed me in to a sandbar. It took me 5 min.s on all 4s to get the strength to stand. Best dog ever.

I have an American black lab now. Great dog and even more into water than my brit was. Took her out on the skiff 1st time yesterday. She’s sold on boating.

You are correct. I know that there will be a bunch of Pit Bull lovers on here but the truth is they are not a good companion animal and they are not a family dog. Pit Bulls are an aggressive breed that need a strong experienced owner. There are lots of breeds of dogs that will naturally protect you and your property without being a menace.

Same thing happened with my kid and our puppy. He kept blowing in its face because he thought it was funny when the dog snapped at the air. I told him he’d better stop before the dog got him. Not 20 minutes later the dog bit the tip of his nose. He learned 2 lessons that day, don’t blow in the dogs face like an asshole, and puppies have super sharp teeth.

I don’t know if I agree with the even if “raised” from a pup. Have a peer that picked up a pup just over a year ago. She raves about how amazing the dog is... but then she lets slip how the dog got kicked out of the dog pool because it was too possessive of toys.

Then recently she let it slip that the dog is aggressive at home with their other dog over toys.

The difference is that when my basset hound is aggressive over a toy and nips at another dog, that is generally the extent of the interaction.

Unfortunately, pits are bred to latch on and not let go once that activity starts.

And if I were your neighbor you’d be looking over your shoulder every day for the rest of your very soon to end life.

I wouldn’t trust a single pitbull brought into a shelter to be sent back out to another home. It is far too likely that they have been ill-treated and would cause harm.

With so many dogs euthanized, I don’t understand why they don’t just routinely concentrate such an end on the highest risk dogs.

In the Northeast, many local pounds only have pit bulls, because they are the ones with irresponsible owners. To adopt another breed you have to go to one of the groups that ships dogs in from another part of the country or Puerto Rico.
