Gaydar ISN'T real: Scientists slam the phrase as ‘stereotyping’ and say its use could lead to aggression

We've all heard people say they have a 'gaydar'.

It is the alleged ability to know whether someone is gay or straight based on their appearance.

The phrase Gaydar got a scientific boost from a 2008 study that concluded people could accurately guess someone's sexual orientation based on photographs of their faces.

But a new study challenges what it calls the 'the gaydar myth', saying it isn't accurate and is actually a harmful form of stereotyping.

Yes, there’s that too, right?

Used to be we were a nation of broad shoulders AND sharp wit.

Now we have Baraq Homobama and Stephen Colbert.

It is REAL easy to spot homosexuals. They have a cult since homosexuality isn’t a biological thing but a learn behavior. They learn the same behaviors, it is how they recognize and invite each other. Homosexuals accept all other homosexuals. It is the easiest social group to get into.

Yes, I am pretty sure. Google Walter Pigeon and the word gay.

Rock Hudson was the one who fooled me the most. When I was a kid I wanted to grow up to be him.

My Mom told me she knew for years about Rock, she even told me a friend of hers observed him once, and he was really swishy, nothing like how he appeared on the screen.

Swishy?

Is that a noun or a verb or adjective or what?

Have to admit mine is not too finely tuned. Turned out I have two homosexual nephews I did not know about for a very long time. Probably did not help that I knew them from babies, so never saw the telltale signs that others saw, like my wife that only saw them as adults.

But they need to show that physical traits program a person’s sexual behavior like a programmer writes an operating system. That’s what the politically correct attitude is. People are not responsible for sexual behavior.

This is a classic “it’s not 100% so it doesn’t exist” liberal lie. It’s just like their “a border fence can’t stop all illegals” or “we can’t deport all illegals” or “Obamacare doesn’t hurt everybody who participates” lies.

Does anybody really question that most people can make a pretty good judgement about whether some people are gay or not based on their voice or mannerism or appearances?

The question, though, is just how far that will take you. People who claim to have "gaydar" say or believe that they can come to conclusions with a lot more accuracy than one can seriously claim.

They aren't saying, "Hey, sometimes I can guess who's gay and who isn't." They're asserting that their sense is a lot more infallible than that, and they don't.

I'm not sure it's a liberal-conservative thing, since the greatest believers in "gaydar" are gays themselves (at least until they want to feel indignant about somebody else claiming to have it).

Mostly I hear it in a context like when Liberace announced that he was gay. It's more of a "no kidding" than a "I can detect hidden thoughts".

It's not hard to claim you knew it all along after you find out.

But I heard this gaydar stuff when the Jared the Subway guy story came out and many people just "knew" that he was gay all along. Or you could tell it just by looking at him. Or they had friends who knew people who had friends who said "everybody" who went to college with the Subway guy just "knew" he was a "flamer."

I will say first that no one is "born 'gay'" but some are born with sensitive dispositions which may be turned that way, as has been recently suggested and demonstrated.

The effeminacy which a majority of homosexual men exhibit to some degree isn't natural. I have known of enough men who rapidly developed effeminate mannerism once they adopted and embraced the 'gay identity' that I believe there is a physiological change that is brought about in the brain through chosen behavior. It's interesting how the brain can be morphed by chosen behavior, which is all the more reason to support reparative therapy for men with unwanted same-sex attraction.

Mostly homosexuals use it, to demean opponents who they accuse of being “gay.” (The most vile epithet they can think of to demean them, strangely.)

It might be as simple as which side of the brain you employ as a filter for everything you observe and do.

I really don’t know...
