Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz told Megyn Kelly tonight that the Kentucky clerk who refused to issue marriage licenses to gay couples should be released from jail.
U.S. District Judge David Bunning told Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis she would be jailed until she complied with his order to issue the licenses.
Cruz said that this is outrageous, fundamentally wrong and he unequivocally stands with Davis.
"We are a nation that was formed by people fleeing religious oppression and coming to seek a land where we could worship free of the government getting in the way," Cruz said. "It is stunning what is happening here."
Cruz explained that the result of this standard is that Christians cannot hold public office, unless they are willing to violate their faith or go to jail.
"That is not America. That is not how this country works."

I think several people now have blood coming out of their eyes and blood coming out of their whatever concerning Fox News.
I guess I understand it in a sense. I don’t have any strong loyalty either way as a guy who’s not a Trump backer and as someone who’s not a Fox News backer either. I like Cruz and I don’t watch a lot of television. More often than not, it’s on just to be on.
Megyn Kelly wasn’t that bad here. She offered some rebuttals, but not in a pushy way and seemed to agree with Cruz on the idea of their being hypocrisy for people pushing for Davis to resign but not pushing for the mayor of San Francisco or the AG of California to resign over sanctuary cities.
Cruz did well in the interview.
What law? There isn't a statute, only one judge. Judges don't write laws, they either uphold them or overturn them. So there is no law, only a court opinion.
If they want to go all rabid on the primacy of some Federal decision or statute, why isn't the DEA working overtime in Colorado, for instance? Federal marijuana laws haven't changed.
Probably because even though the left, particularly the secular and cultural marxist left is authoritarian, but totally fine with people getting stoned. Attack their precious gays though, and they’ll come after you.
Yeah, I admire Ted Cruz for putting up with Megyn, knowing that he may be entering hostile territory, considering his history with her. I remember he was one of the very first guests on her show, and she was a bit uppity with him.
Well, I will say I don’t think anyone considers humility to be one of Megyn Kelly’s most prominent or endearing qualities. Unless FOX News makes a rather pronounced move to the left, I’d imagine she’ll leave and go to one of the alphabet networks or CNN at some point.
Cruz is the best at understanding and presenting our Conservative platform, and Cruz the best statesman to succeed as president.
