Democratic Party fundraiser and gay activist Terry Bean made sex-abuse allegations with a 17-year-old boy disappear on Tuesday thanks to a $200,000 settlement offer.
Terry Bean, 67, faced child sexual-abuse charges over a September 2013 incident that allegedly occurred at a Eugene, Oregon, hotel with his ex-boyfriend, 25-year-old Kiah Lawson, and the teenager. Lane County Circuit Judge Jay McAlpin dismissed the case when Lane County Chief Deputy District Attorney Erik Hasselman said the teenager declined to testify, the Register Guard reported Wednesday.

$200,000 made the problem go away.
Have to keep the jail cells open for the Christians.
How is that possible? Isn’t the state the injured party and has control over whether to charge?
He’ll still have to Answer to God.
When the victim says he won’t testify, and you have no physical evidence, you don’t have much of a case.
Witness tampering.

Audio: Terry Bean sought to pay accuser $225,000 and agreed to STD testing in sexual abuse case, newly released recording shows
Prominent gay rights activist and political fundraiser Terry Bean had agreed to pay $225,000 to a teenage boy who alleges that he had sex with Bean and Beans ex-boyfriend at a Eugene hotel in 2013, according to a newly released court recording.
The payment was part of a proposed civil settlement that Lane County Circuit Judge Charles Zennaché rejected after learning its details during a closed portion of a July 16 court hearing. Had the judge approved the deal between Bean and the boy, charges of third-degree sexual abuse and third-degree sodomy filed against Bean, 67, would have been dismissed.

Bean is a former Eugene resident who now lives in Portland. He is known for his work on gay rights issues as well as for raising a substantial amount of money on behalf of Democratic Party candidates, including President Obama.
Lawson, 25, of Junction City, is awaiting trial in Washington County on charges that he had a sexual encounter with a 17-year-old boy in 2013. That case arose as part of the same investigation that led to the filing of criminal charges against Bean and Lawson in Lane County.
Terrence Patrick “Terry” Bean is an American political fundraiser, a civil rights activist, and a pioneer of the LGBT rights movement. He is known for co-founding several national LGBT rights organizations, including the Human Rights Campaign, the Gay & Lesbian Victory Fund and the National Gay Games. As of 2012, he is the CEO and President of Bean Investment Real Estate and resides in Portland, Oregon. In 2014 he was arrested on charges of sexual abuse in a case involving a 15-year-old boy.
The AIDS pandemic impacted Terry Bean’s life in a very personal way. He lost many friends and two partners to the disease. Bean decried the failure of the Ronald Reagan and George H. W. Bush administrations to respond to the crisis and threw his fundraising muscle behind Bill Clinton’s candidacy in 1992, because of his promise to address the AIDS crisis. He said, “I have way too many friends who have just too few T-cells in their blood to be able to survive four more years of George Bush. This is the politics of survival.”
Gay activist Terry Bean’s ex-boyfriend says teen sex accuser has ties to Bean; reasons to lie
New claims against prominent gay activist Terry Bean have surfaced in a sex abuse case against his ex-boyfriend.
Though Bean isn’t charged in the case, his name has come up as having ties to a teenager and possibly giving the boy money and other gifts.
It’s the latest turn in a twisting tale of sex, politics and an alleged blackmail plot swirling around the wealthy real estate developer.
The case involves 25-year-old Kiah Lawson, Bean’s former boyfriend who faces four counts of sex abuse in Washington County Circuit Court for allegedly having an intimate encounter with a then-17-year-old boy in June 2013. He is scheduled to go on trial Aug. 25.
Lawson’s attorney, Gabriel Biello, said in an Aug. 7 filing that he will call a witness who will testify that the teenager who has accused Lawson was in a sexual relationship with Bean and may have financially benefited from the relationship.
The teen wanted to replace Lawson as Bean’s boyfriend, Biello wrote.

in cases like this the recipient of the money and the lawyers involved should be gone after for extortion.....I think that in all probabilities the political hack is guilty bot this is utter corruption of the law at its worst.
Does that mean his ex-boyfriend, Lawson, is still on the hook?
Damned expensive piece of "tail"....
I’m amazed that the kid didn’t end up in Fort Marcey park.....
He hasn’t been tested, yet? Maybe when he turns out to have HIV, the kid will decide to testify.
Can he still testify, if he accepts $225,000?
Why don’t they say he founded HRC? Is HRC ashamed of him now?
Now, 33% of homosexuals are infected with HIV, the cause of AIDS, and it causes those infected to age 14 years, AIDS still kills.
Why did they write that Bean wasn’t charged in the case. He was charged, just tried separately.
