Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) rushed to the defense of the Kentucky clerk held in contempt of court Thursday for her refusal to issue gay marriage license and issued a statement calling for "every lover of liberty to stand with Kim Davis."
Davis, the clerk in Rowan county, had stopped issuing licenses to all marriage couples after the Supreme Court decision legalized same-sex marriage and was sued by a group of couples.
"Today, judicial lawlessness crossed into judicial tyranny," Cruz said. "Today, for the first time ever, the government arrested a Christian woman for living according to her faith. This is wrong. This is not America."
Read Cruz's full statement below:
Today, judicial lawlessness crossed into judicial tyranny. Today, for the first time ever, the government arrested a Christian woman for living according to her faith. This is wrong. This is not America.
I stand with Kim Davis. Unequivocally. I stand with every American that the Obama Administration is trying to force to chose between honoring his or her faith or complying with a lawless court decision.
In dissent, Chief Justice Roberts rightly observed that the Courts marriage decision has nothing to do with the Constitution. Justice Scalia observed that the Courts decision was so contrary to law that state and local officials would choose to defy it.
For every politician Democrat and Republican who is tut-tutting that Davis must resign, they are defending a hypocritical standard. Where is the call for the mayor of San Francisco to resign for creating a sanctuary city resulting in the murder of American citizens by criminal illegal aliens welcomed by his lawlessness?
Where is the call for President Obama to resign for ignoring and defying our immigration laws, our welfare reform laws, and even his own Obamacare?
When the mayor of San Francisco and President Obama resign, then we can talk about Kim Davis.
Those who are persecuting Kim Davis believe that Christians should not serve in public office. That is the consequence of their position. Or, if Christians do serve in pubic office, they must disregard their religious faithor be sent to jail.
Kim Davis should not be in jail. We are a country founded on Judeo-Christian values, founded by those fleeing religious oppression and seeking a land where we could worship God and live according to our faith, without being imprisoned for doing so.
I call upon every Believer, every Constitutionalist, every lover of liberty to stand with Kim Davis. Stop the persecution now.
“Divorce is allowed by Christian churches and by the teaching of Christ.”
In a few cases. So should a clerk ask, so as not to be involved in adultery? Is it the clerk’s business? Or is the clerk just there to verify the law is being followed?
Hey, napsy...why don’t you stroll over here and post the same thing to Jim?
I’d love to see a good overdue lightning storm:

[To me, that would be called being a hypocrite but you have a right to your opinion.]
Are you referring to my statement that you can be a democrat and a Christian, too?
If so, just look at Saul before Jesus renamed him Paul.
Saul persecuted and killed Christians. That’s just as bad as anything a democrat does.
But Jesus still pursued him and counted him as a Christian.
That’s not an opinion. Those are historical facts within the Bible.
As I said, Jesus welcomes us who would come to Him, including democrats.
“Are you referring to my statement that you can be a democrat and a Christian, too?”
No, I wasn’t calling you a hypocrite. I was saying that a person who claims to be a Christian cannot (IMO) also be a member of a group who supports abortion and gay marriage. These are not Christian values. That is hypocritical.
I understand that Jesus loved the sinner and forgives sin. But don’t you have to acknowledge that sin first before you can be forgiven? And did Jesus say “I forgive you now go sin again?”
Does this woman still consider herself a democrat? We don’t know. Would she stay a member of the democrat party and run for office as such again? I don’t know that either but I can bet you that the question will be asked of her sooner or later. If she still would be a dem after being born again IMO that is being hypocritical and that is what I was saying. In that case I do not believe that the person truly had accepted the Lord.
Didn’t Saul change his ways and was then known by the name of Paul?
I would be very interested to hear what she has to say about her political affiliations now and hear her answers to these questions.
ahhhhh. Poor baby. Your little feelings hurt. Such a shame. I imagine I will have to thinking about that for a moment.....lol.....not a chance. You are way to liberal for me to care about you. The reason that I have disdain for you is because you are the most liberal on this board and always have been. I have tried my best to pray for you to become a conservative but you don’t have a desire for it. Some people just have to learn the hard way. I just hope that you are able to see things before you fall over dead.
Just keep jawing, jackass. More and more people see every day what you are. The more you talk, the more people see you for the braying moron you are.
