....Even more intriguing is what happened when Monmouth put Trump in head-to-head contests with the rest of the Republican field. Trump dominated every other candidate besides Carson, who would beat the frontrunner by a whopping 19 points, 55-36% if they were the only two names on the hypothetical ballot.
By contrast, Trumps lead over Bush was also 19 points, beating him 56-37%. The only other candidate who could come close to beating Trump was Cruz, who still trailed him 48-41%. Trumps biggest lead of 33 points is over both Chris Christie and John Kasich. See the full breakdown below:
[TABLE AT WEBSITE]
The poll was conducted from August 31-September 2 with a national sample of 1,009 adults and has a margin of error of +/- 5.1 percentage points.
This is all to say that for the time being, Trump may want to spend less time attacking Bush for being close to the Clintons and speaking Spanish and more time going after Carson, as he started to do, perhaps not so coincidentally, today.
Carson has no money or organization.
Ergo, it will be Cruz, which is Trump’s real goal.
More grasping at straws.
Yup! Silly buffoons!
LOL....
And thats why Trump leads in all polls?
Very desperate attempt and pathetic attempt at best.
Carson is lovable but softish on a few issues
And is a former Dem himself
He lacks Trumps command
Why would Trump be a stalking horse for CRUZ?
Makes no sense no matter how much folks here wish
Trump has never shown an appreciation for CRUZ culture war
They are cordial cause CRUZ is smart and genuine and they share similar support pool
Cruz could be in his cabinet maybe
Carson is the least experienced of all the republican candidates, so he is an unknown for leadership and performance.
No, Carson is doing well in a couple of polls as the “not quite ready to go whole-hog for Trump” voters, but his amnesty comments will catch up. He also currently has very heavy support from the NRO/wanna-be conservative crowd as their last hope of stopping Trump.
Ridiculous.
If voters wanted Cruz, he'd be leading in the polls and dominating the news.
Carson for some reason makes me very uneasy. I have no idea why! Anyone else think the same?
Ben Carson - “The OTHER low energy candidate”
You watch. Give Carson the nomination and suddenly Democrats will decide that it’s okay after all to pile-on the black guy.
Trump hate Jeb, for good reason.
There will be a natural arc to the Trump phenom as the RINOs unload on Trump with massive attack ads.
Trump is no dummy; he knew this was coming before he started.
Trump did this so as to be the kingmaker for Cruz, and Cruz won’t forget how he got there.
Let’s just flag this post and come back to it in about 4 months.
Trump and Cruz know exactly what they are doing.
There are natural arcs to these things.
I'll be here.
wait until the press starts to hammer Carson’s political incorrectness, and his support of some policies conservatives don’t like.
I suspect the Monmouth Poll to have been a Rove play. A poll since them has the numbers back consistent to what tey have been all along.
What this poll shows is that Donald Trump has 37% solid support from Republicans, and the other 63% would rather vote for Ben Carson.
Are supporters of the quiet, earnest, brilliant, Ben Carson the type of people who would switch their allegiance to a loud-mouthed, bullying egomaniac like Donald Trump? NO.
So how is Donald Trump supposed to win more support? By attacking Ben Carson in his usual loud-mouthed, bullying, egomaniacal way? By remaining silent while Ben Carson continues to build support as he’s been successfully doing since last month’s debate?
It may have been enjoyable to watch Donald Trump bash Jeb Bush, the over-privileged, wealthy, latest mediocrity in the Bush dynasty, down to the 4% range; but now that Jeb has been taken out, Donald Trump himself will become the most prominent over-privileged, wealthy Republican candidate and will be resented for it as much as Jeb Bush.
And is there any candidate less over-privileged than Ben Carson, who rose from poverty through hard work and a quiet, serious demeanor?
The tide has turned.
