Kim Davis, a Kentucky clerk who refused to issue gay marriage licenses got some rather bad news today, as a judge held her in contempt and has ordered her to jail.
Here are the details so far.
From NBC News:
A federal judge has ordered a Kentucky clerk to jail after she refused to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples.
Kim Davis, a clerk in Rowan County, was found in contempt of court on Thursday morning. She has said granting marriage licenses to gay and lesbian couples would violate Gods definition of marriage and infringe on her personal beliefs as an Apostolic Christian.
District Court Judge David Bunning has said Davis is bound by an oath of office to perform her duties under the law, and ordered that she be jailed until she complied with his order to grant licenses.
Bunning has upheld the Supreme Courts decision in June to legalize same-sex marriage nationwide, and wrote last month after the contempt lawsuit was filed that the state is merely forcing her to do her job within the law.
Davis, a registered Democrat, had worked as a deputy clerk for 27 years before voters in Rowan County elected her as clerk last November.
As an elected official, she can only be removed in a vote by state legislators, who dont reconvene in the State House until January. While Davis certainly has the right to not be forced to do something against her conscience and religious beliefs, I feel that her continued refusal hasnt really helped her cause any.
Rather than allow this get so far out of hand, perhaps she shouldve alerted the media to what was going on and then quit her job, using the exposure she would get from the situation to show her dedication to Christ and the gospel, which would be a super powerful testimony to believers and unbelievers alike.
Davis hasnt chosen that course of action though, and its totally up to her to decide to do what she feels is best. I wouldve refused to issue the licenses as well, and wouldve walked out the door as a result.
Hopefully this will get resolved soon in a peaceful manner.
It is a moment of truth for the People of America.
God is angry. Will they embrace that anger and do something constructive to end the travesty. Or will they find themselves destroyed by the anger coming against them.
LOL!
Allow me to explain what "the rule of law" means in America now.
Hillery "Felony" Clinton can commit MULTIPLE obstruction felonies, yet law enforcement won't go anywhere near her.
This is because all those salaried little government enforcers KNOW that "Felony" & her minions can mess them up REAL BAD for DARING to enforce the law on her.
By the same token, all those salaried little government enforcers KNOW that Clerk Kim Davis can't do a thing to them personally, so they show up like good little Minions to "enfarce the farcical law".
If Kim Davis could mess them up REAL BAD, they'd shoit their Big Girl panties, and cower weeping in a corner.
The lesson in this is that clowns like Dunning and his enforcers need a wee wake-up call about who's REALLY in charge in this country.
That is exactly the point, she said she didn’t want her name legitimizing something that was against her faith and that furthermore was not written into state law that she took an oath to.
Laura talked about it in the scornful autobiography she released weeks after he left office. No fan of Laura, here.
“Also, bail...lets do a funding of her bail. I dont think she can be denied bail can she?”
I don’t believe bail is an option in a contempt of court case.
How could that be true?
There is no violent felon here. How can she be denied bail?
Given your opinion, I find your screen name ironic.
Because imprisonment for contempt of court occurs AFTER a finding of fact.
Bail is for people whose case have not been adjudicated. This woman is not being held awaiting trial, she's being punished.
By KY law they can only do that with her permission.
Makes sense. Thanks.
Here’s hoping.
He just made an announcement that pretty much sounded like he was ok with her being in jail.
Wow! You may be right.
Government began taking over the family under FDR some damage was inflicted but families remained intact. LBJ basically went to war against the family and had government step into the roll of father and head of the household. The damage that resulted is staggering. The final assault is the governments war on marriage itself to destroy the sacredness and wholesomeness of marriage and replace it with a government mandated definition of marriage that not even nature recognizes and rejects it in animals. The nation unless this madness is halted won't survive it.
One interesting idea that I’ve heard is for the state to have another referendum and vote in the law they want.
Unless there is clear voter fraud or a true violation of the Constitution {which was written for the federal government to abide in not the states} then state courts and legislatures should decide it preferably by public vote so there are no misunderstandings. If a state Constitution and state laws prohibits same sex marriage it should be prohibited & the federal government was not given oversight of marriage to start with. Legally marriages oversight as in to license the officiate thereof is a power given by the state an exception I thinks is with some Maritime laws granting ships Captains the authority. Morally it is an act before GOD.
When this is over, this woman will get an undisclosed settlement and back-pay. There is no way in hell that the local government followed their due-process rules. This is like running a person off to debtors' prison for not feeding the parking meter.
No, “homosexual marriage” is an oxymoron.
“Gay marriage” is redundant.
