That remains to be seen, and it ignores the larger point of doing what the government tells you to do against a long standing moral prohibition against it.

Your belief that state licensure for marriage creates some kind of wholesome social environment is spurious. Marriage was never a contract with the state until early in the 20th century. It has become a worthless and troublesome infringement on personal liberty. Now, with the requirement to acknowledgement the legitimacy of buggering as a state recognized life style, marriage has lost most of its legitimacy. The church must retake its prerogative and abandon the state with its grievous demands.
Call it what you will. Marriage is first and foremost a religious rite, not a government mandated contract.

No surrender here. Any pastor that performs a wedding ceremony without benefit of state license will find himself arrested as well. The state demands the right to authorize all weddings. Try it. See what happens.

This needs to be changed. The government isn’t competent in this department any more. Yes, this would get a gaggle of “churches” like UU involved with “gay marriage” but the important thing is that it doesn’t shanghai the hand of We The People any more.
