RUSH: Here is Shari in Valparaiso, Indiana, as we stick with the phones here on the Rush Limbaugh program. Hi, Shari. Great to have you here.
CALLER: Hi, Rush, glad to talk to you again.
RUSH: You bet.
CALLER: I have a question for you. First of all, do you remember how people have been calling you over the months and they've been all depressed about the country and upset with the direction we're going and saying that, you know, they think America is over and stuff like that? And you said to them that you didn't know what was gonna happen, but you're an optimist, and you didn't know what would happen, but you thought something would happen to pull us back from the brink. Well, my question is, do you think that Trump was what you were waiting for?
RUSH: Well, no. I'm answering your question specifically. I mean, I didn't know what the event would be. All I knew is that something was likely to happen that would reinvigorate people, or that would illustrate to them that all isn't lost, or that they're not in a minority in terms of the way they're thinking about the country. In other words, something would happen to make everybody realize we haven't lost the country yet, there's still a good chance here of saving it. Now, I didn't anticipate, I didn't know what it would be. I had no idea. If anything, I was thinking more along the lines that something would happen that would expose Obama as a giant, total fraud.

Yesterday’s show was one of Rush’s best in a long time. He was on a roll and pondering out loud lots of political circumstances, especially those that relate to Trump and the RNC.
I think this is really on point. I don’t think people are “fooled” that Trump is a conservative. I don’t think for most of his supporters it matters a single little bit if he is a conservative or not.
People support Trump because he is a do-er. He makes things happen.
People support Trump because he is a fighter. He doesn’t apologize for having opinions that others (particularly in the media) don’t agree with.
People support Trump because he wants America to be number one. He is a rejection of the Obama mentality that there is no, and should be no, American exceptionalism.
And conservatives have to face facts. We have backed conservative after conservative, often putting them through ridiculous levels of vetting in even the smallest utterance of speech going back decades, and it has led to liberals having more and more power.
Keep doing the same thing and expecting different results? Insanity.
I will be voting for Ted Cruz in my primary. I will work toward introducing other people to Cruz. But I will be cheering Trump in his destruction of the media and the GOP establishment.
There is much division, consternation and dissension on FR over GOP POTUS candidate Donald Trump. There is an intellectual basis for this debate.
However, one thing that I think we can all agree on though, even at this early point of the primary process ... if Donald Trump wasn't in this race ... Jeb!Jeb? would be on the Dole/McQueeg/Romney gOpee path to the nomination with the lowest tepid minority percentage of the polls ever ...
Donald Trump is neither conservative nor liberal. He is, however, a fed up, successful, outspoken, thinking American.
Actually, he IS a third party - a We The People Party.
People support Trump because he is a fighter. He doesnt apologize for having opinions that others (particularly in the media) dont agree with.
In 2016, the GOP POTUS nominee must come from the FIGHTER CAUCUS (yes, RedState, but the theme is well articulated. I would replace Jindal with Trump)
I hope he tops yesterday’s show with today’s and tomorrow’s shows...And I guess he’ll be on again Monday, since it is only Labor Day.
***And conservatives have to face facts. We have backed conservative after conservative, often putting them through ridiculous levels of vetting in even the smallest utterance of speech going back decades, and it has led to liberals having more and more power.***
Which conservatives have been backed, at the national level? I see only pseudo-conservatives.
None of these guys will be able to defeat Trump in this primary. Trumps stance on legal and illegal immigration is why hes winning. There isnt any other candidate with the right stance on that issue. Its also the biggest issue facing our nation and has enraged Americans across the political spectrum because its almost never addressed in a serious manner by any politician. There is no other issue with such a disconnect between politicians and the vast majority of American citizens than immigration. There isnt any alternative to Trump on this issue, and thats why he cant be beaten. This immigration issue alone will likely lead him to victory in both the primaries and general election. Its not hard to understand his success, and it will be near impossible for a candidate to take him down on other issues when they are failures on an issue many see as being more important than other by far. Its one issue that should break or make a candidate.

I missed parts of yesterday’s show. Rats!
“Do-er” or not Trump is popular-du-jour because he is a “say- er”
He is saying what some of you want to hear
Not much different from Mr Hope and Change
You misunderstand the comment.
Conservatives have never been able to get their candidates in the position to be elected because we destroy each conservative candidate on the way to the nomination.
We demand such purity, going back decades, that we rip them apart and leave them in tatters for the establishment to knock over.
When we point out things and say “In 1997, he said X!”, the establishment then tells voters who aren’t paying enough attention “See? He can’t even get the support of the right-wing! How could he possibly win an election?”
We do the dirty work of the establishment and the liberals for them.
We have to stop that. Or we will never, ever get a conservative in position to be elected.
Say what you want but Mr. Hopey Changy delivered on a lot of what he promised.
Yes by operating in a lawless manner Obama has delivered to his constituency .....I suppose Trump is capable of the same
If Trump had never entered the picture, would frustrated and angry American conservatives remain supine throughout an entire primary season?
Because Jeb Bush has bungled his campaign both before and after Trump's entry into the race, should we not conclude that he would have continued to do so had Trump not entered the race?
As Jeb's fortunes decline to the point where he is left with very little more than a war chest, can we not say that he was vulnerable from the very beginning to any effective conservative candidate who would campaign against the Republican establishment?
Even this early in the campaign, may we not reasonably conclude that Jeb has missed his chance?
As the campaign has evolved should we not conclude that the stand-in for Jeb's role as the establishment candidate is likely to be Marco Rubio because of his matinee idol looks, his well told biography, his undoubted appeal on the stump?
Should we declare Ted Cruz out before the first pitch is thrown, before the Empire has even called, "play ball "?
Making America Great Again is really covert for Taking Back America. I like it!
I don't know about other people, but whenever I hear a recording that tells me to press 1 for English or press 2 (Opremo Dos?) for eSpanish, it infuriates me to no end!
Then Mrs. TheKnow has to go to the ER. Has to stay overnight for observation, tests, stress test, etc. Large ER filled with VFW (very few whites) staff all speak eSpanish because 3/4ths of the ER is filled with Hiss-panics. We get a bill for over $16,000 fricking dollars! to cover the expense of the eSpanish who pay ZIP!
And not a single one of them will ever send us a Thank you note!
The difference e is one loves America and all it has to offer and the other does not. That’s quite a difference!
Ever hear of the Wollman Rink in Central Park? It's very famous and if you know the story of why it is now called the Trump Rink, you will know what I mean by he is a do-er.
The rink was closed in 1980 for an announced 2 1/2 years of renovations. When the problem-plagued work was not completed by the city by 1986, Donald Trump persuaded Mayor Ed Koch to let him complete the work and he completed the renovations in three months to have it open by the end of the year. Koch initially objected to Trump's proposal when Trump offered to pay for the renovations himself with the stipulation that he be allowed to run the venue and an adjacent restaurant and use the profits to recoup his costs. Public pressure prompted Mayor Koch to reverse his position.
Note that the project was supposed to take 30 months, and 6 years later, New York City still hadn't completed it.
Trump was sick of the delays, offered to do it himself, and got it done in 3 months.
That is a do-er, not a say-er.
