A close associate tells POLITICO that Donald Trump plans to sign a loyalty pledge Thursday that would bind him to endorse the Republican nominee, and would preclude a third-party run. Trump made the stunning decision, which he has long resisted, to avoid complications in getting listed on primary ballots, and to take away an attack line in the next debate, the associate said.
Trump, who has led the GOP field in poll after poll, has long viewed the threat of a third-party candidacy as priceless leverage and even used that word when he refused to take such a pledge in the first debate, on Aug. 6.

The RNC is not the DC establishment so how will Trump protect himself and his campaign from the powers behind the DC establishment attacks against him?
Also some have pointed out past dealing with guys like Sharpton, and say it’s a negative.
I think one of his strengths is his ability to engage with his enemies, instead of being 100% adversarial. You aren’t going to get much accomplished by making too many enemies. What good is all the talk if nothing gets done, and sometimes you have to work with your opposition to get things done, Reagan understood this as much as anyone.
The DC Establishment was/is going to attack any conservative who shows strength.
In fact, the DC Establishment was/is going to take down even any RINO that would happen to get the GOP nomination.
Exactly.
If Trump was way behind in the polls, would they even demand he swear a pledge, I think not.
How about an RNC pledge, ‘we promise to support all candidates equally with fairness and let the American electorate choose the nominee within the process’.
He better make sure all the others sign first .what happens if you do not???
All candidates must put $$ in an account
He is the GOP leader at this point and I don’t expect him to EF that one up anytime soon so why not!
Loyalty Pledges are straight out of the North Korean political playbook.
[He better make sure all the others sign first .]
I believe they verbally said they would but signing a pledge I would have to see the document first.
I would like to hear Trump add a caveat that he plans to make public his list of donors and demand the rest of the field disclose theirs.
Yep. The GOPe will cleverly box Trump in until they find they are trapped. LOL! And who do we want negotiating and making decisions for Americans in the next few years?
F-em. sign and ignore it. not legally binding.
I think he will be ok doing this, because hes got such a plurality now, even the cold fish GOPe wont be able to stop him unless they kill him.

How does he have a plurality months before the first votes are cast?
He has a lead in the polls, just like Herman Cain, Michelle Bachmann, Rick Perry, and Rick Santorum did (did I miss anyone?) in the summer of 2011.
There’s quite a bit of cart before the horse going on when it comes to Trump, with a lot of water yet to flow beneath the bridge (to mix my metaphors).
He will sign only unless they promise to deport Jorge Ramos, Rosie, Bergdahl, George Will and Kelly Megan to
Meh-Hee-Co.
“What’s this about support... GOPe probably would not even vote for him.”
They would not, any more than conservatives will support the Dem-lite candidate (SEE: Yeb Boosh) that the GOP-e plans to RR through.
This ‘pledge’ nonsense is as foolish as federal judges telling the NFL and the voters that they don’t matter.
“Smart move on his part. A third party run would guarantee a Dem win.”
Any candidate who isn’t Trump or Cruz guarantees a Dem win.
Good work. They also have to pledge to support him if he’s the nominee.
> How does he have a plurality months before the first votes
> are cast?
A plurality is not a majority.
The polls are an indicator of how the votes would go if they were cast today.
