On Wednesday, Dr. Ben Carson said America’s borders must be sealed to protect against terrorism and told a prominent group of Latino elected officials that he also supports giving illegal immigrants a path to legalization and eventual citizenship.
Addressing the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO) in Nevada, Carson said that “the reason that I think we need to seal our borders completely… all of our borders–north, south, east, and west–is not so much because I’m afraid of somebody from Honduras.”
“I’m afraid of someone from Syria who wants to bomb us, who wants to do bad things,” he said. “So that’s the main reason that we need to seal all of our borders.”
Carson said that “we do have an illegal immigration problem that would be solved if we sealed the borders and cease the benefits” so that “people wouldn’t see a reason to come here.”

Dr Carson never said “amnesty”. He was simply addressing an extremely complicated subject, with a series of hypothetical solutions.
I support Dr Carson. He would be great for our nation. But he needs to think through the pivotal issues and construct a specific strategy. He needs to be very thoughtful and consistent with all his talking points.

Regarding the country’s illegal immigrants, Carson said, “many of them have never known any other country … so where are you going to send them?”
Carson said the country must “provide them a way so that they don’t have to hide in the shadows” and “give them an opportunity to become guest-workers–they have to register, they have to enroll in a back tax program.”
“And if they want to become citizens they have to get in the line with everyone else… because we have to pay homage to people who’ve done it the right way,” Carson added."
How is this any different than what everone in the GOPe is saying?
You’re correct, of course. However, will attempt to hold judgement until a definition of ‘amnesty’ is given by him. That he is NOT listening to the majority of WTP seems apparent on this issue. His good qualities abound - this just totally ‘flies in the face of true blue Americans.’ Sigh. Even a wise, grown man can still learn as he ages.
There ya go doc! The first time I heard Carson speak, my first thought was he seemed like a nice guy and probably good at what he did. But for President? I basically keep silent. I knew he wasn’t going anywhere but back to the hospital to do what he did best.
“Amnesty” is a dishonest inaccurate way to represent what Dr Carson is saying. Amnesty does not involve following a process as Dr Carson suggests. It does not involve taking a series of specific steps prior to receiving absolution.
The process Dr Carson outlines, places a penalty on the action of coming here illegally, which BTW was facilitated if not condoned by our Government.

Again, I repeat, the use of the term “amnesty” is dishonest, inaccurate and intentionally inflammatory. It is in defensible in light of the actual definition of the word when compared to the words of Dr Carson. Game! Set! Match!
Illegal immigrants staying here, taking jobs, and living on welfare as well.
What does it matter if they pay a penalty. Is that going to give jobs to citizens or take illegals off the welfare rolls?
At least you are honest. You don't care if it's “amnesty” or not (which it isn't). You don't want any part of it. OK, that is your opinion.
My opinion is, Dr Carson presented a common sense set of principles that offers a reasonable solution to the problem. I support Dr Carson's position.

Mr. Carson, why are U.S. Citizens 2nd class that any lawlessness would not be forgiven as you would the NUMEROUS lawbreaking (border crossing, voting, tax fraud/EITC, doc fraud, etc.) of an illegal alien (not that I condone amnesty for Citizen law-breakers)?

There is only one reason and we all know it. Sad to say because I like how Carson talks about the issues in a sophisticated and non-dogmatic way. His style really appeals to better educated people who are sick of dumb ass politicians who reduce complicated issues to trite slogans. Republican politicians should learn from how Carson speaks as well as from how Trump speaks.

Walker has done a lot in his stare. Carson and Cruz never done anything Good except empower Obama on trade and Iran.

Ben Carson polls high due to lots of evangelical support. He gets other support too. Many like his soft and reassuring bedside manner. I want a hard headed, unsentimental conservative bastard in the White House and Trump looks like the man. No more Mr Nice Guy with China, Mexico, illegal immigration and so on.
No, Dr. Carson, illegals should not be rewarded for breaking our laws. This statement makes you unfit to be president.
