Rubio to Trump: 'America is great' right now
The Hill ^ | September 1, 2015 | Jesse Byrnes

Posted on 09/01/2015 1:54:34 PM PDT by maggief

GOP presidential candidate Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) on Tuesday continued to push back against front-runner Donald Trump's campaign slogan, "Make America Great Again,” instead of going after the billionaire businessman himself.

“There’s one other candidate running, he says he’s going to make America great again,” Rubio told about 200 people gathered in a community center in Nevada, according to The New York Times.

“I understand what he means by that. I don’t mean that as a slight," the Florida senator insisted, according to the newspaper.

“I would remind everyone America is great,” Rubio continued. “There’s no nation on earth I would trade places with. There’s no other country I would rather be. The issue is not that we’re not great. The issue is whether we will remain great. The issue is, we can be even greater than we are now. We can be even more prosperous, more powerful."

Rubio, who has shied away from directly attacking Trump, has repeatedly taken issue with the slogan that has become synonymous with the real estate mogul’s 2016 White House bid.

"In comparison to where the world is today, yeah, America's still a great country. But that's not due to our policies, that's despite our policies," Rubio told CNBC as part of an interview released last week.

Before that, Rubio said on Fox News that "America is a great country. ... We could be even greater."

Rubio, who has cast his own campaign as a bid for "A New American Century," has remained in the top tier of GOP candidates, placing fifth of 17 in the latest Public Policy Polling survey released on Tuesday.

He needs to shove that water bottle up his ass and squeeze, and maybe he can self-flush some of what he’s full of out of his system.

America is going down the tubes if the GOP-e don’t defund Planned Parenthood. The atrocities are in plain view. America is being weighed on the scales and is found wanting.

Exactly .. because with that opinion, HE’S ALREADY OUT TO LUNCH.

I knew there was a reason I didn’t want to vote for him.

Oh really, with the highest rate of people in our history dependent upon government, with the SC forcing people to buy a product or pay a penalty (or tax)if they don’t, by equating sodomite unions with traditional marriage, by undermining our mlitary through pc, the same for LE and fire fighters, by abridging religious freedom bit by bit, by forcing the whole nation to buy into the delusions of mentally ill people who feel that since they’re men, or women, or dogs, or little green martians, we must all pander to their fantasies-need I continue? Oh, let me not forget-by not only murdering babies in the womb, but making sure to do it in such a way so that the murderers can buy that Lamborghini. What else? I know that I’m missing dozens of ways that America is no longer either great or good.

$19 trillion in debt. No jobs. No respect in the world. Degraded military. Obamacare.

Yep... We are great.

You could make any country great by
running up an eighteen trillion dollar debt.

Sadly, we ran up the debt and achieved decadence.
(Any country whose legislature passes legislation
without knowing what is in it, is decadent.)

And how could I forget a biggie-by pretending we don’t have borders, or laws protecting those borders, and that American taxpayers should be required to fund the lawbreakers who come here with their “dreams” of mooching (and their diseases never before known in the US), while those same taxpayers struggle to send their own kids to college (though maybe that’s a blessing in disguise, considering the agenda of most colleges now, which isn’t to educate).

‘Make America great again.’ Implicit in the slogan is the admission that America is no longer great. Right?

Wrong.

"Again" clearly indicates "in relation to what she once was."

The Darwin Theory of Political Suicide is in effect these days. Rubio thinks we are great NOW? Christie want’s Christian businesses to serve Gay weddings. Jeb pushes Common Core. Are they not listening???? Trump is the only one speaking to the masses. What is the matter with them?

Transcript: Florida Sen. Marco Rubio’s Convention Speech
AUGUST 30, 2012

EXCERPT

I know that for so many of you, these last few years have tested your faith in the promise of America.

Maybe you are at an age when you thought you would be entering retirement. But now, because your savings and investments are wiped out, your future is uncertain.

Maybe, after years of hard work, this was the time you expected to be your prime earning years. But instead, you’ve been laid off, and your house is worth less than your mortgage.

Maybe you did everything you were told you needed to do to get ahead. You studied hard and finished school. But now, you owe thousands of dollars in student loans. You can’t find a job in your field. And you’ve moved back in with your parents.

You want to believe we’re still that place where anything is possible. But things just don’t seem to be getting better. And you are starting to wonder if things will ever be the same again.

Yes, we live in a troubled time. But the story of those who came before us reminds us that America has always been about new beginnings.

America is great. Mexico is not. Why do you want to turn America into Mexico?
