In what is likely to become a common occurrence in the near future, 150 Missouri high school students walked out of class Monday due to a disagreement as to whether or not a transgender student who was born male should be allowed to use the girls locker room.
From KMOV 4 St. Louis:
**The walkout lasted for about two hours. Roughly 30-40 people showed support for senior Lila Perry, who wants to use the girls locker room during gym class. Perry was born a male but said she has identified as a female since 13.
**Theres a lot of ignorance, they are claiming that theyre uncomfortable. I dont believe for a second that they are. I think this is pure and simple bigotry, said Perry.
**A short distance away, a counter protest was being held by people claiming they have relatives at the high school.
It appears that the students were split as to whether or not they felt comfortable with the arrangement and the ordeal lasted for about 2 hours.
The school apparently offered Perry a gender neutral bathroom, which he rejected claiming, I am a girl, I shouldnt be pushed off to another bathroom.
This is probably the most interesting aspect of the story. The school, which was clearly caught in a tough spot, offered a perfectly reasonable compromise to the situation and Lila Perry refused.
The way things are trending right now, the LGBT community doesnt really care whether or not parents are comfortable with their teenage children being forced to share bathrooms and locker rooms with children of the opposite sex.
Perry even went so far as to say that he doesnt believe the situation bothered anyone, opponents of the move were just bigots.
This represents the false liberal narrative that has been successfully used to demonize anyone who doesnt agree with absolutely everything the LGBT community is asking for.
A parent who does not want their child, who they still have full legal control of, changing in the same locker room as a child with the genitalia of the opposite sex is not a bigot. Automatically labeling them as one does nothing to further the conversation.
Perry dropped out of the gym class but will keep using the girls restroom.
Its hard not to be concerned by the degree to which the PC police have taken over society. This serves as yet another example of the supreme intolerance of the left. My way or the highway.
There is room for different opinions in this world, but it is the parents decision what their children are exposed to when they send them off to public school, not the medias. Period.
Schools are afraid they’ll lose federal aid if they don’t go along with this. What they don’t realize is that they’ll lose state aid if they do because parents are going to pull their kids out.
Every student that leaves the school will be taking several thousand dollars out of the school’s coffers. It wouldn’t take many leaving before the school puts a stop to the little freak.
Thanks for a thoughtful first-hand reflection. Wish these people could get the help they need instead of being turned into political pawns.
Does anyone else see now why the perverts belonged in a locked closet?
About the only thing I’ve ever supported was when Huckabee (of all people) said that he wished he could choose his locker room when in High School.
People here got mad at him - I got his point.
If the school tries to sanction them, maybe their parents can try homeschooling.
I know that not all will agree with this, but the emergence of trans-gender restrooms in public schools may be a blessing in disguise, especially for the homeschooling movement. It could be shown as proof that the public schools are way beyond repair and lead large numbers of parents to refuse to use them. It could be the beginning of the end of government schools.
For parents who are truly interested in their children receiving an education.
For those who are looking for free babysitting, no chance.
Let him undress in the girls locker room just once. Arrange for the real girls to stand there and watch him. As soon as he is naked, have the girls point at him and laugh. That’ll cure him but good. He’ll never want to go into the girls locker room again.
If I went to that school and had to share a locker room with him I’d probably kick him in the nads and yell “WHAT’S THE PROBLEM, WHY YA BENT OVER CRYING, ‘GIRLFRIEND’???”
I read a Fox article about students protesting the inclusion of boys in girls’ bathrooms at that school. Unfortunately, I deleted the link.
I hate trannies, and their demands that the rest of the world play insane, so they can live out their delusion.
The best way to close the government schools is for parents to remove their children.
Behind every government K-12 teacher in this nation stands an armed policeman. ( Real bullets in that gun on the hip.)
That's what laws are. That is what compulsory attendance and compulsory funded schooling is. It is the threat of police and court action if one refuses to comply. If one is resistant enough it means prison. Sufficient resistance could even result in death.
Here's the proposed policy on transgender students, drafted by the Missouri Consultants on Education. It came up at one of our county's local school boards the day after it was proposed, and as would be expected in a quite conservative school district, was immediately tabled pending legal advice. Not all districts have board members and staff who will act as quickly, and lots of parents won't realize what's happening until the board has already acted.
Diamond, Eric in the Ozarks — please help push this out to others in Missouri. Wagglebee, please do the same with any evangelical or traditional Roman Catholic Freepers you know in Missouri. It needs more attention than it has gotten.
You want this in your local schools?
The Board of Education believes that all students are entitled to a quality education in a safe environment. This belief extends to the growing number of transgender students, that is, students who self-identify with a gender that is different from their biological sex.
The Board seeks to balance the privacy needs of all students with the preferences of transgender students and their parents/guardians. This policy sets forth the practices that are in place for the welfare of all of our students. This policy does not anticipate every situation that might occur with respect to transgender students, and the needs of each transgender student must be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
Student Identity
Transgender students are permitted to select a first name and pronoun that more closely matches their gender identity. This chosen name shall be used by the District staff to communicate verbally and electronically other than in official school records. Changes of name shall not be permitted to exceed one name change per school year.
Official school records shall continue to list the birth name and biological sex of the student. The student or their parents/guardians may obtain a name change through the court system. In such case, the District will amend its official school records to comply with the court order.
Restrooms
The district, when requested, will designate a gender-neutral restroom(s) in each building with the appropriate signage.
All students, regardless of their gender identity will have the option of using the gender neutral restroom, or the restroom designated for their biological sex.
Locker Rooms/Showering Facilities
Elementary students are not required to change into PE uniforms and, hence, do not require showering.
In District secondary schools, students who elect to participate in physical education classes that require access to locker rooms or showering facilities will be expected to use those facilities designated for their biological gender. However, upon request of a transgender student and/or their parents, alternatives will be considered. In consultation with the student and parents, the alternative will include, but not be limited to, on-line PE courses, independent study; scheduling adjustments to include early access to change and showering facilities; separate enclosed change and shower room within the locker room. Each such request would be considered on a case-by-case basis. However, if consensus cannot be reached with the student/parents, the District will select an option that is in the best interest of all students.
Apparel
Transgender students are permitted to dress in the same manner as the gender with which they identify. However, all students are required to dress consistently with the school's dress code.
Extra-Curricular/School Activities
Similarly, all students are permitted to wear apparel associated with their gender or gender identity. On occasion, student activity groups schedule overnight trips. Students will be assigned rooms, with sponsor approval, mutually agreed upon by student roommates. The District is a member of the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA). As such, the District is required to adhere to MSHSAA regulations regarding athletic participation by transgender students.
