I was stationed in New London on the USS Jallao (SS368) in 1963.

Started school in Jun 62 as RM2, blew up head in the 105’ free ascent tank.
I popped my sinuses on way down and bled from everywhere, I was first in line and they wouldn’t let me out.
Had to ride that ‘elevator’ back up - the decom was like having skin ‘sucked off’ (or something like that).
That washed me out and went on Base MAA Force, living in Brig and transporting prisoners to Portsmouth NH, ‘mental’ dropouts to LI and generally play ‘traffic cop (Pedestrian) till my orders to the Pentagon came through....UGH>..
Was lucky in a way, I knew of a few that were on the Thresher Boat that were in my class, so.....I maybe got REAL lucky....
