Thomas Sowell: How Bush, Trump Handled Hecklers Reveals A Lot (Sowell is beginning to get it)
IBD ^ | Thomas Sowell

Posted on 08/31/2015 3:45:29 PM PDT by RoosterRedux

Even those of us who are not supporters of either Donald Trump or Jeb Bush can learn something by comparing how each of these men handled people who tried to disrupt their question-and-answer period after a speech.

After Bush's speech, hecklers from a group called "Black Lives Matter" caused Bush to simply leave the scene. When Trump opened his question-and-answer period by pointing to someone in the audience who had a question, a Hispanic immigration activist who had not been called on simply stood up and started haranguing.

Trump told the activist to sit down because someone else had been called on. But the harangue continued, until a security guard escorted the disrupter out of the room. And Jeb Bush later criticized Trump for having the disrupter removed!

What kind of president would someone make who caves in to those who act as if what they want automatically overrides other people's rights — that the rules don't apply to them?

Trump later allowed the disrupter back in, and answered his questions. Whether his answers were good, bad or indifferent is irrelevant to the larger issue of rules that apply to everyone.

That wasn't enough to make "The Donald" a good candidate to be president. He isn't. But these revealing incidents raise painful questions about Bush being leader of the free world.

The Republican establishment needs to understand why someone with all Trump's faults could attract so many people who are sick of the approach that Jeb Bush represents. No small part of the internal degeneration of American society has been a result of supposedly responsible officials caving in to whatever group is currently in vogue, and allowing them to trample on everyone else's rights.

I was surprised too. In the article you posted he says Trump isnt a good candidate. Here is another.

Why is that a surprise? Sowell has never endorsed socialism or liberalism in his career.

How would Trump blow their monopoly when he is aprt of them and owned by them lock, stock, and barrel. He would represent total victory for the uniparty.

I respect your judgment as I have indicated before.

Thx for your nice response.

I too hate Jeb with white-hot intensity.

I am first of all a Cruz supporter. But I also support Trump as of late.

Jindal hasn't a snowballs chance in hell. Good man...just not enough charisma.

Trump has charisma. He wrote the book on charisma.

How is Trump owned by anyone?

I have watched him for over 35 years. He is an assh@le because he is owned by no one.

Come on, Nick. At least make sense.

Get on the train or lay on the tracks...we don’t care. But, he is going to move the illegals back to Mexico. And it will take his iron will to fix the borders, put the military back to strength, bring jobs home, overturn Obamascare, and stop the homosexual agenda from ruining America permanently. The patriots around here realize this and the rest are going to be Trumpled underfoot.

Sowell ran 3 editorials in a row bashing Ted Cruz.....Maybe he deserved it?

Huh? How did I speak for you.;-)

As President of the Union of Carbuncles, I haven't seen your name on the roles for a while now.

You owe $25.15 in dues to the Carbuncle Union.

Until you pay up...you are just a pimple.

I'm relieved that Sowell has not lost his fastball.

But he is, when all is said and done, an establishment conservative, not a Tea Partier, not a Trump fan.

Let us hope he warms to Trump.

If only the world were as neat and tidy as some of Sowell's arguments and essays...

I like Ted Cruz the best. When the Code Pink hecklers arrived, he took them up on the stage, debated them, and won the debate.

I just did a search and nothing turned up.

Writers rarely write their own titles for their articles. This duty is usually handed off to a designated staff member.

The same article can be posted on two or more sites, and get a different title each time.

IBD and Creators each ran the same article but gave it a different title.

But, he is going to move the illegals back to Mexico.

That will happen right after Boehner repeal Obamacare.

And it will take his iron will to fix the borders, put the military back to strength

Iron will? LOL. The man that gets into a chick fight with Rosie O'Donnell on Twitter? If that pansy ever had to go against Putin or ISIS he'd melt like butter. Fighting them is not like taking on Rosie.

stop the homosexual agenda from ruining America permanently

I guess you didn't realize Trump has never offended the LGBT activists, and they know it and they don't come after him. They owe him for helping their agenda: The Unlikely Turning Point in the Same Sex Marriage Battle (Trump's Pro-Gay Pageant)

Trump is also a sympathizer to Muslim radical: TRUMP: ‘PAMELA GELLER IS JUST TAUNTING THEM’

He is owned for several reasons. He overleverages and depends on banks and other financiers. They pull out and his business collapses. Also, his business depends on big government cronies. He needs them to continue.

If you followed him for 35 years, you must remember he was about to go bankrupt twice before he was bailed out?

If you followed him for 35 years, do you remember his sworn deposition from the 2000s when he discussed his valuation philosophy?

Thx for that. I am aware of such but don't know how to adjust for it in search.

I often do an additional search for names (like "Sowell") but when they don't turn up...what can I do?

We all are so desperate to get the truth published here, we might go a bit over the top.;-)

You don't understand business. When you owe the bank a lot of money...you own the bank--not the other way around.

Banks need Trump, Trump can always find another bank.

That said, your hatred of Trump is clouding your judgment. Back off a bit and regain it.

And then come back to us as a sane person.

I like Cruz/Walker/whomever also. But I listen to the voters.

The voters are calling for--screaming for--Trump.

Get use to it.

"Caving in" as Sowell and others put it, is this thing called Political Correctness. Jeb Bush, Martin O'Malley, Bernie Sanders are engulfed with years of over the top Political Correctness.

I do think Trump would make a more creditable potus than the present one, who as a community organizer was little more than a Communist...."President Obama is the greatest hoax ever perpetrated on the American people."...that will be on of the greatest sentences ever spoken and reveling a truth few Americans have the nerve to say. If Clint Eastwood had not said it, I am sure Trump, Carson, or Cruz would/will. Honest people do not use Political Correctness for cover.

It’s OK. I try not to post duplicates but I frequently do anyway. In fact, when I use the Abuse button, most of the time it’s probably against myself. :)
