One question weve asked about Donald Trumps campaign is what would happen if another candidate were to get a surge of media coverage, throwing a wrench in the works of Trumps perpetual attention machine. Based on the latest polls, we may soon get the best test of this question since Trump entered the race.
The potential surger is Ben Carson, the much-awarded neurosurgeon who is running for political office for the first time. Carson is near the top of the Republican field in two new polls of Iowa. A Monmouth University poll has Carson with 23 percent of the vote and tied for the lead with Trump, while the Des Moines Registers poll has Carson in second place, with 18 percent of the vote to Trumps 23 percent. Carson has also been gaining ground in national polls and is in second place behind Trump, according to Huffington Post Pollsters averaging method.
Carsons gains in the polls have come organically in fact, hes been receiving remarkably little media attention. From June 28 through Aug. 20, Carson received only 0.9 percent of the news coverage of the top 161 Republican candidates, based on the number of Google News hits he received. That puts him at 14th in the field. Trump has received about 60 times more media coverage than Carson.

and over...
Carson has always been in the top 3 with every person I’ve ever talked to (including Dems as I talk to far more Ds than Rs due to where I hang.)
So some of those who previously had Santorum, Perry, Huckabee, Paul, Walker, etal as #1 have now made their #2 the #1. Walker, especially, has seen his support go to Carson.
Carson supporters contrast the use of a scalpel on the Cartel vs use of a bludgeon.
Fraud? No. Just wrong. Even being wrong, he is, at least, sincere and well intentioned.
Will I vote for him over Trump? No.
“how could he go along with it?”
Who said he is going along with it? He may be hearing exactly what we’re hearing and doesn’t know what’s going on behind the scenes. It’s not as if he’s in the loop when it comes to the political machine.
I suspect Carson probably doesn’t really have a “position” on a lot of things and when asked a question over analyzes and answers honestly. He’s not my guy, but I don’t detest him like a lot of the professional RINOs running.
Carson ties Trump in a single poll, in a single state -- Iowa. And all based upon a terrific 44-second closing statement from the last debate, coupled with many, many visits to evangelicals in Iowa. Nationally, Carson is far behind Trump.
And although I like Carson personally, he is incredibly gaffe-prone. His "plan" to roll the VA into the DoD that we saw this morning is absolutely ridiculous, for example. Carson also has said some very distrubing things about amnesty, which will soon get more exposure.
Vaccines are NOT a “minor issue” when you’ve watched your 6-week old convulse for days from a so-called baby shot. Then, years later, her brother come down with all 3 measles from the measles shot.
I guess it depends whose kid is getting hurt.
I think I’ve got a good slogan for Dr. Carson
