Washington (AFP) - Billionaire Donald Trump has soared in opinion polls for the Republican presidential primary, but inflammatory anti-immigrant rhetoric could cost him the crucial Latino vote in the 2016 White House race.
"What Trump is doing is political suicide," says Patricio Zamorano, executive director of the consulting firm Infoamericas.info.
Since launching his campaign in June, "The Donald" has catapulted to the top of the Republican polls, ahead of 16 other candidates, and at 28 percent this week he is streaking away from his nearest rival by 16 points.
Immigration has dominated the agenda since then, with Trump, 69, promising to build a wall to keep Mexicans -- who he has attacked as drug traffickers and rapists -- from entering the United States illegally.
He has also promised to deport the more than 11 million people living in the United States illegally and to eliminate their US-born children's right to nationality, which the outspoken Trump sees as a magnet for undocumented immigrants.

But at the same time, the mega-rich developer has drawn anger and scorn from Hispanics, the fastest-growing US minority group, numbering 54 million, and 10 percent of voters.

...Trump isnt anti-immigrant.Trump is anti-illegal.(BIG) difference....
However, libs, GOPe/T and the media are ignoring the (BIG) difference.
The legal immigrants who are already here are all for ending amnesty and open borders! It's in their own interest!
The Democrat-funded "Hispanic leaders" are out-of -step, their interests lie not with the immigrants but with their Democrat paymasters.
Bingo!!!!!!! The most highly acclaimed seven exclamation mark award is yours. Congratulations. I would have added another after “congratulations,” but that would have made eight.
It’s okay for Trump, but not anyone else?
Cheers.
Blacks resent illegals taking their jobs as well. Wonder how Trump is polling with them.
The same to you most high eagle one. Having a cold one as we post.
Great idea. I think I’ll grab one.
Who cares...I sure don't, and btw, it's not Hispanic, it's greas*er.
“...but inflammatory anti-immigrant rhetoric could cost him the crucial Latino vote in the 2016 White House race.”
The American vote is, of course, not crucial. Americans can give away their country, or allow it to be taken. That is the only acceptable outcome for these fools. As John Derbyshire once wrote, our grandkids will one day curse us.
Latino citizens aren’t thrilled with millions of illegals either.
Absolutely. Legals come here to better their lives. Some thug they left behind sneaks in and takes their stuff.
Illegals hate illegals, too!
Are you not glad fungi exist? Yeast that is.
Or I could just be imagining he said it to justify drinking it.
Statistic I have seen is Hispanics are 17% of the U.S. population.
Media seems to act like they are 75% of it.
RE: Statistic I have seen is Hispanics are 17% of the U.S. population.
17% Hispanics plus 13% blacks is 1/3 of the electorate.
That’s a HUGE number to lose.
Those Latinos won’t vote Republican regardless of the nominee, even for ass-kissing Jeb.
