(Flashback): Sweet deal for Donald Trumps gold course (backs of taxpayers)
New York Daily News ^ | May 29, 2014 | Juan Gonzalez

In 2012, then-Mayor Michael Bloomberg gave Donald Trump control of a $236 million public golf course at Ferry Point and threw in a slew of giveaways that include a low revenue-sharing plan with the city and free water. No other city golf course enjoys these perks.

...

How many ways do you spell sweetheart deal?

Former Mayor Michael Bloomberg apparently wasn’t satisfied with simply handing Donald Trump control over one of the most expensive public golf courses ever built in this country – the new $236 million, 18-hole Parks Department course scheduled to open next spring at Ferry Point Park in the Bronx.

Bloomberg’s aides quietly added a slew of financial giveaways in the 2012 deal with The Donald that no other city golf course concessionaire enjoys, a Daily News review of Parks Department golf contracts has found.

Those giveaways include: no concession fees for four years; then decades of extraordinarily low revenue-sharing with the city; tens of millions of gallons of free water annually; even a five-year delay for Trump to build a $10 million clubhouse, his only major capital investment in the project.

Start with the greens fees, the basic charge for a round of golf; virtually all of the city’s existing 13 public golf courses charge $48 per person during weekend peak hours, higher for non-city residents.

But the new Trump National Golf Course at Ferry Point plans to charge nearly three times as much — $125 per person.

Trump’s split of revenues with the city, however, will be far less than all other courses.

The city got off cheap. Think what it would have cost to fix it up if done by the city.

Trump is more conservative than most of the Republican party. He has come to it eclectically, but with a little wisdom from real conservatives, he could do very well.

He is known for listening to his experts in the different fields.

Businesses across the country are given very nice tax abatements, from cities all across the country, as an incentive to bring their companies there.

You are a naive fool.

This is not free market capitalism. This is crony capitalism or quasi-socialism.

If you come and genuflect to your masters, they will give you a tax break for your business.

If you are not a party member in good standing, then we will not give you the incentives.

Since when is this the right way for our government and businesses to run?

What is conservative about admiring state control over who gets incentives?

You fawn all over this because it created jobs and bailed the city out of something they should not have been involved with in the first place.

Why does Trump's golf course get a tax incentive, but someone else's business does not? What happened to equal treatment under the law?

You make me sick by admiring the very thing that is helping to eat away at the greatest nation to ever exist.

Then you are missing the whole point about why Trump is leading EVERY state and national poll. This is unheard of in last 50 years.

My opinion is this Trump phenomena is entirely due to Americans being sick of losing. They are thirsty for America winning again.

They are tired of being
screwed by China, Japan, Mexico, middle-east wars,
Liberal legislators who are increasing the height of welfare pyramid every quarter,
new business start ups are now net negative,
illegal invasion accompanied by violent crimes,
college graduates not finding jobs commensurate with their education,
middle class wages stagnant,
Planned Parenthood selling baby parts,
Hedge fund managers paying less tax rates than ordinary middles class jobs such as teachers & firefighters,
H1-B visa explosion taking jobs from American citizens, legal immigrants getting social security without contributing a dime in taxes,
infra-structure looking like a 3rd world country,
wounded veterans receiving sub-standard healthcare,
Obamacare & soon to come Hillarycare,
loss of American military power,
and phony MAN-MADE global warming crowd.

Well, yes, the accusation was that he was a stalking horse for Hellery because they were friends. Even if you didn’t throw out the stalking horse scenario, plenty of people did. I just never bought it.

No, I did not miss it at all. I totally get it.

I also understand why so many conservatives are falling for Trump as well. He fights back and shouts at his opponents without apology and conservatives love it. We have been whipped dogs for too long, apologizing for our beliefs.

No, I get it.

But, remember, Germany was broken, beaten and in the midst of a great depression....they turned to a man who screamed from the pulpit, who didn't back down and who seemed like he had all the answers.

No, Trump is not Hitler in any way, shape or form. The analogy fits because when you are desperate is when you are most vulnerable for deception.

Good! Then, we are even.

You called me a naive fool, well, you are an ignorant fool. You don't even understand how business works, in this country, and what has kept the free market free.

Do you, or have you ever, owned a business? Do you/have you ever signed the front of the checks....the checks that pay payroll, the taxes and the bills? Just curious.

My city owns a golf course and has ever since I moved here in 1966. People who do not want to belong to a country club or can not afford a country club uses it. It is kept up by the city. Before one of my friends moved out of town, she played there 3 times a week.

Now I understand your problem.
You think Hitler with Trump are the same because both had/have charisma in spades.
FRiend, let me explain the difference.

Hitler never built anything! He never even ran a sausage stand at profit. Hitler was a community organizer all his life.

Trump on the other hand has spent his entire life actually building useful things. Like apartment residences, business occupied buildings, skating rinks, world class golf resorts, superb hotels, etc.

Comparing Hitler and trump is exactly same as comparing an elephant with a rat because both have tails! Just because both Hitler and Trump are charismatic individuals does not mean they have anything common in ideology.

that’s why he is rich and most of us aren’t. Of course, he did have some starting capital, but he took that and made a fortune.

Part of The Donald mythology is that he only started with a small fortune. His father, Fred Trump, left behind an empire behind that included 27,000 housing units in NYC. 27,000 housing units in NYC is hardly "some starting capital" - it is a world class fortune, comparable to the Kennedy and Bush inheritances.

Nope. Swing and a miss.

I was comparing the mindset of the people who put Hitler in power to those who are supporting Trump.

The two men share very little....I agree....but the people are behaving out of desperation.

No, sweetums, YOU prove that Trump is “just like Mussolini”; you said it, you prove it and you’d best be very specific!
