Former Mayor Michael Bloomberg apparently wasn’t satisfied with simply handing Donald Trump control over one of the most expensive public golf courses ever built in this country – the new $236 million, 18-hole Parks Department course scheduled to open next spring at Ferry Point Park in the Bronx.
Bloomberg’s aides quietly added a slew of financial giveaways in the 2012 deal with The Donald that no other city golf course concessionaire enjoys, a Daily News review of Parks Department golf contracts has found.
Those giveaways include: no concession fees for four years; then decades of extraordinarily low revenue-sharing with the city; tens of millions of gallons of free water annually; even a five-year delay for Trump to build a $10 million clubhouse, his only major capital investment in the project.
Start with the greens fees, the basic charge for a round of golf; virtually all of the city’s existing 13 public golf courses charge $48 per person during weekend peak hours, higher for non-city residents.
But the new Trump National Golf Course at Ferry Point plans to charge nearly three times as much — $125 per person.
Trump’s split of revenues with the city, however, will be far less than all other courses.

Look, I am all for what Trump is doing at this point, I think he is doing a great service to this Country, right now.
But he has got quite a challenge to maintain what he has started and we have a long way to go. Give this cycle time to play out, many things are going to change between now and this time next year.
Cruz is a good man, but he is not perfect just like Trump isn't perfect. They both have some great strengths which is why I believe they are working together and this whole thing needs to play out.
LOL, he has made many deals like this - that’s why he is rich and most of us aren’t. Of course, he did have some starting capital, but he took that and made a fortune. The lack of business sense on this conservative site, is astounding.
First don’t compare this to “if Rush got this deal, would you feel the same way”? Trump is a developer and Rush is not. Trump has the expertise in managing golf courses - some of the finest in the world - and Rush does not. So, that argument flies right out of the window.
Second, sounds like Trump did NYC a favor and took over a fledging golf course, that the city was sinking hundreds of thousands of (taxpayer) $$ into, regardless. They were losing (taxpayer) $$, because no one was wanting to play a run down course. And, at the same time, brought in JOBS, JOBS, JOBS.
Trump did several things, as part of the deal to take over.
He enlisted Jack Nicklaus to redesign and turn into a Signature Golf Course, and he has/will invest (his own) $10M to build a brand new club house. These two things, alone, are things ANY city golf course would give just about anything to have.
In addition, there’s the expense of maintaining the course - excluding the water - with greens maintenance, pro staff, other facility staff. Managing a golf course is a huge expense, and why so many fall into disarray, if not managed properly.
His name brand. Golfers who spend any amount of time and money (like Rush) know that a Trump managed course will be par none (pun intended). They know the course will be designed well and maintained well and very well.
Hope this clears up some of the ridiculous comments being made about cronyism, etc. Comments like those, on this site, make me think a few folks have been bodysnatched by DU.
