The maple tree is an iconic symbol of Canadian identity... as well as the famous syrup it produces.
And of course the maple leaf is featured on the Canadian flag as well as the red color.

It’s curious why the NY Times is writing about this. They are printing an article that contradicts their espousal of socialism. How can they decry socialist tyranny while at the same time demanding it expand here?

Actually, it seems to be advocating moving to a national - or more rather international - regulatory system for it.

Actually, it seems to be advocating moving to a national - or more rather international - regulatory system for it.I wonder exactly where maple syrup is produced. In Canada,of course...but is it nationwide or just in Quebec and maybe New Brunswick? IIRC Vermont and New Hampshire produce it too....and maybe Maine.

Its a good thing that Im not 35, 40 years old because Id pack up all my sugar equipment thats movable, and Id go to the United States oh yes, in a minute, in a minute, said Mr. Hodge, 68.
No better here, big gov’t has taken over the US as well.

It’s little different from the unions trying to control the supply of labor, and the Times is all for that. Interesting change of direction...perhaps they don’t see it that way.

Also try PA. I was bear hunting In TIOGA CountY (?) and came over a mountain and saw the whole side was full of plastic lines that went down hill from the REAL sugar maples. All of the tanks I had seen were receiving maple sap. I thought Those storage tanks were for oil and wondered “When did they find oil up here?” In NW PA I would never have thought that.

I own a piece of land in Wisconsin. There a quite a few people who are interested in taking sap from my trees as well as others in the area. I don't know where or how they sell the stuff (I don't recall ever seeing any being marketed locally) but unless these people have some type of fetish or are REALLY into pancakes, they make way too much of the syrup for personal use.
