MUSIC FOR POPS WALLERIN’

Delibes: “Flower Duet” from “Lakme”

Leo Delibes is remembered for revolutionizing the art of ballet by making the music about advancing the plot, not necessarily for showing off the dancers’ chops. He also wrote one opera that is rarely performed outside France. One duet from that opera was used in the soundtrack of “The Shawshank Redemption,” a Stephen King novella filmed in 1994. The duet has taken its place in the pops repertory.
