Milwaukee County Sheriff Challenges Obama: 'Forego Your Secret Service Protection'
CNS News ^ | 8/28/15 | Susan Jones

"I am done asking people in my community to outsource their personal safety to the government," Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke told Fox News's Sean Hannity Thursday night.

The sheriff accuses Democrats of "exploiting misery and tragedy" to pursue a political, anti-gun agenda.

"But here's my challenge to the president of the United States, you think this is so easy. Forego your Secret Service protection, for you, for the first lady, and your children, and see what it is like to have to fend yourself.

"And then we'll sit down and have a conversation so you know what we here at ground level have to deal with on a daily base in terms of self-defense."

Clarke said the way to reduce "gun violence" and crime is to identify the bad guys, arrest them, adjudicate them, "and once they've convicted, you lock them up for the longest period allowed by law."

Clarke noted that President Obama is doing the opposite -- letting convicted felons "out the back door."

"He recently visited a federal prison and pardoned 46 federal prisoners, long time federal convicts. And he plans on doing more," Clarke said.

"So while the police and the community and the people are trying to get these individuals out of their community, he is pouring them back in. This was a chance for the president, Sean, to bring the country together, and once again the divider in chief goes out and further separates us."

Clarke said the Constitution does not prevent terrible things, such as this week's horrific murders near Roanoke, from happening.

"Well, look, Sean, as you know, terrible things happen in this world from time to time. We have to be a little more humble about our ability to prevent every horrific situation from happening.

"There are certain things we can do to reduce and prevent these sorts of things. Not messing with this document (the Constitution), no. But we can do things like better mental health screening, better background checks.

"The FBI allowed a guy to purchase a handgun that went down, we understand it, and committed a horrific act recently (in Charleston). So if we're trying to make this absolute, that none of these things will ever happen again, we're working on the wrong thing, because unfortunately the world we live in, with the evil that exists, it's going to happen."

Like maybe allowing prayer back in our schools! Teach family values and how life is precious.

I vote for Clarke every chance I get. He’s the right kind of lawman to have in a position of authority.

I loved it when I heard him say that. I see bigger things for him in the future. Maybe in D.C.?

What exactly are ‘back ground checks’...are they uniform or do they vary from state to state...who preforms them...how are they stored...what are the levels if any of concern and how is that handled. Is there a central clearing house for area alarm....where is the list.? Is the phrase “back ground checks” just rhetoric?

As important as is the matter of self defense when discussing Second Amendment rights ("shall not infringe") there's an even more important aspect to the debate,an aspect addressed in a surprisingly candid way by a very prominent politician of *recent* times:

"Certainly one of the chief guarantees of freedom under any government, no matter how popular and respected, is the right of citizens to keep and bear arms. This is not to say that firearms should not be very carefully used, and that definite safety rules of precaution should not be taught and enforced. But the right of citizens to bear arms is just one more guarantee against arbitrary government, one more safeguard against tyranny which now appears remote in America, but which historically has proved to be always possible".

Who uttered these words? Hubert H Humphrey (D-Minnesota)!

I love his message and his courage...what concerns me is what present-day powers in D.C. might have in store for him.

That is a dumb recommendation.

Obama has little control over SS protection. That is by statute and not choice.

Clarke said the Constitution does not prevent terrible things, such as this week's horrific murders near Roanoke, from happening.

Sheriff Clarke is a very wise man, unlike our idiot in chief. People go off the rails from time to time and it can't always be stopped; sh*t happens. When I was in high school, a close friend of mine had a tragedy. His father came upon my friend's mother in the kitchen with the neighbor, and went postal killing both of them, and the father went to prison for murder. He used knives. So what would you do, ban possession of knives from the kitchen?

I just found out a relative killed himself with his handgun. The why is unknown, but he was despondent over a wasted life and probably would have ended his life in another way if he didn't have the gun.

It's the emotions that guide us, and society is doing a poor job of keeping us sane. Taking away moral guidance by attacking Christianity is not helping, nor is the breakup of traditional families.

No. It's Jim Traficant's nephew.

Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke is Wisconsin’s greatest untold story, a champion of civilization in a tough to police jurisdiction. The fact that he is an African American puts him in a position to say what no white man could say. Clarke is not at all bashful about his wisdom either. Nor should he be.
