If someone had told you 5 years ago that a liberal democrat would run for president as a conservative republican AND be ahead by double digit leads, would you believe that? “ -——
Well, except that reasonable people can disagree that Trump is now a liberal Democrat, and no one wants to appreciate the similarities to other Lefties who (finally) crossed the Mississippi, like Reagan before him, but who kept his lefty wife and their lefty kids.
BTW, I did answer you at 94.
To that, I might add that winning with a conservative candidate who subsists on only his evangelical base and never grows beyond it may no longer be possible in the United States. I know you have thought about that, right?
No, not really. I have thought (often) that no conservative can win without the support of the evangelical base. And I do think that good ol' socon evangelical values alone will not do the trick, but I don't think Huck or Cruz or any evangelical would run on such a narrow platform. Cruz, for sure is right on those values but also economic and political positions also.
The last one to subsist only on his evangelical base was old Pat Robertson. Do you remember that? A disaster.
