Donald Trump recently appeared on Bill OReillys show and was presented with an emotive scenario intended to bring Trump into the quandary of the establishment.
In context of rounding up illegals for deportation, Mr. Trump was asked about the families. What about the undocumented people living in our country, working hard and raising children? Is Trump going to bust into every home Janet Reno-style and drag families, kids and all, to the southern border?
This scenario creates quite the image and will be used repeatedly by the press to show just how unworkable, unfair, and heartless Trumps idea really is.
Trumps response to the scenario was: if we are to have a country, we have to enforce our laws, and the good people will be fast-tracked back into our country with legal status.
The first half of Trumps response is great we have to enforce our laws. But for Trump and the GOP candidates who are taking a hardline stance on those who have broken our laws and disregarded our sovereignty, I would like to take the emotion out of this scenario and present a laconic response for the candidates.
First, under OReillys lachrymose scenario, the issue of anchor baby citizenship comes to the fore.
Its axiomatic that the insane policy of granting U.S. citizenship to the offspring of illegal alien parents must be ended (and the 14th Amendment doesnt need to be amended to stop it but thats another article).
So the unasked and unanswered question is: if the policy of indiscriminate birthright citizenship is ended, should children already afforded citizenship be allowed to keep their status? In other words, should they be grandfathered in? Should United States law state that going forward, citizenship will not be awarded to the offspring of illegal resident parents?

To reiterate what others have said, it isn’t and won’t be necessary to actually round up all illegals - just make a few examples and the rest will self-deport before long. Couple it with an effective border fence, denial of jobs, denial of welfare benefits, and penalties for those states, counties and cities that offer sanctuary status, and very few will try to come ILLEGALLY after that.
As for the gangs, give them one warning and 30 days to leave. The purpose of the warning is to avoid needless risk to our police and the federal agents that would be involved, plus the risk to innocents. After that, however, go after them with overwhelming force all over the country on the same day or during the same week. No breaks for these criminals/drug dealers.
FYI, Ike did this starting in 1954, and illegal immigration declined by 95% in 5 years. Ironically, Senator Prescott Bush (JEB’s grandfather) was a close friend and political ally of Ike’s...so JEB calling those who oppose a similar policy shows his ignorance that this can be done. https://www.conservativereview.com/Commentary/2015/08/jeb-orielly-unaware-of-ike-on-immigration

Should be: “so JEB SAYING IT CAN’T BE DONE [Emphasis added] shows his ignorance....”
Near downtown Denver, in 5-Points, there is an area where the buses are non-stop dropping off Hispanics, from sun-down to sun-up.
Today, those buses are near empty on the return trip.
The policy changes we’ve discussed here would change that flow.
And if you give them a reason to self deport, as in:
we wont send you to jail and your illegal immigration record will be wiped clean if you leave in the next 3 months. However, if you are still here after 3 months, when you are caught, you will be put to work in labor camps making compressed earth blocks used to build the wall.
And make it hard on employers who hire illegals
And take away the food stamps, medical, schools etc
They will go home - in droves.
From the comments, doesn't appear many read it. It lays out exactly the path Trumps approach would take.
"If our courts of law are not often moved by emotion when upholding the rule of law in context of U.S. citizens, how much more should U.S. policy uphold the rule of law in context of foreign criminal trespassers ?"
Indeed.
Trump already said he’d bring the majority back in, on an expedited basis, as legals—that is, with amnesty.
The plan is Simple:
A) Build the wall and Man it—make it airtight. Maybe illegals could be hired to build it (for a Green card).
B) Make it illegal to hire an illegal—with stiff fines ($5,000) for every offense—even for day labor.
C) Regester every illegal so they can get a Green Card.
D) All Illegals in Prison sent back to their home nation with a death sentence if they return.
E) All Illegals who have served Honoribly in Military or done things to help the nation be made citizens of the USA (This number will not be large).
We must know how big the problem is—Many are from Mexico but a whole lot are from other lands—like India. Also: End all documents and other things in Spanish—English Only. Ban Spanish Language Radio and TV and newspaper—All must be subtitled or be in English and Spanish. Same wwith all other languages!
Advertise that illegals cannot be hired so with no jobs they will go home on their own.
“The concept of a roundup is a leftist red herring, never proposed by any candidate.”
Leftist believe that they can round-up and confiscate the (estimated) 310 million privately owned guns, so why can’t an (estimated) 30 million illegals be rounded-up and deported?
As we all know there are many ways to get rid of the illegals that don’t entail rounding them up on Greyhound busses. Trump plans to secure the border and make it tough enough so a large percentage self deport. Just announcing that you are going to round them up will get a huge number to run home.
From what I can see, the longest penalties under E-Verify, for established patterns of abuse - not an individual employee - we’re talking dozens or hundreds - is six months in prison.

“Doesnt need to. Most would leave by themselves after a few high profile arrests.”
Yup. Self deportation.
