Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) is teaming up with his Republican presidential primary rival, Donald Trump, to host an upcoming rally attacking President Barack Obama's nuclear deal with Iran.
The event, which will be held in Washington D.C. on September 9, is one sign of Cruz's comfort with Trump. In fact, according to a recent report, Cruz might actually think Trump can help him win.
National Journal's Tim Alberta published a story Thursday that suggested Cruz and his team have a strategy to use Trump to their advantage. Alberta talked to Cruz, several of his allies, and experts who suggested the senator believes Trump will help activate the conservative base before ultimately fading.
"In the end, I think Trump will have generated the interestand then Cruz will benefit from it," Bill Stewart, a former chair of the University of Alabama's political-science department, said.
Alberta described this as Cruz's "endgame."

Cruz is a smart young man. Smarter than the average bear. If he cannot be President why would he be upset about being named VP, AG or appointed to the Supreme Court?
Everybody cannot be President but there are lots of other really powerful important jobs.
Cruz would be a great Senate Majority Leader. Maybe things could get done.
WEll I agree but the senate hates Ted Cruz so that will never happen. He would be much more useful and powerful as AG or a Supreme Court Justice.
Ding.. ding!.. we have a winner!
Never is a long long time.
President Thrump will not hesitate to use his Bully Pulpit to bring pressure from the people onto Congress Critters who oppose the American Peoples desires.
We saw that with Reagan too.
I think you’re right.
Trump knows he’s an outsider. He would need someone who could get down and dirty with the Senate if they tried to undercut him.
Cruz has taken on the Senate Majority Leader and not backed down.
Plus Cruz already has a working relationship with the House conservatives that would help the president.
If the public has a good response, this could be the roll out of the next administration.
The SEnate does what the Senates gonna do. They don’t give a rat’s bazoo what the President says about who gets to be majority leader. Ted Cruz will never be majority leader of the Senate. He can be much more powerful as AG or a Supreme Court Justice or VP in line to be President in 8 years.
Trump is Savvy and Cruz is Sensible/Methodical and both together A much over-dued Fighters for US!!

Trump and Cruz work as team?
At 69 and worth 10 billion, Trump won’t be anyone’s VP.
At 40ish and holding a decent donor war chest, Cruz is prime VP material.
This joint appearance really makes this a possibility. It’s too obvious, so both of them, smart men, know exactly what a joint appearance and message looks like.
To pull in the conservatives who cry about Trump not being conservative/too liberal, etc.
Puts a stop to some of that whaaaa.
“If the public has a good response, this could be the roll out of the next administration.”
That sounds awfully good to me!
Yes. Ted Cruz knows he’s going nowhere in the Senate. If he can’t make Prez its not the end of the world. There are a lot of powerful positions in Wash DC like VP, AG and Supreme Court Justice.
This is his time.
I’d rather have him as VP, then Potus, and then on the Supreme Court.
Yes I want to see Ted Cruz in a position to do good things for the country. He is greatly hampered in the Senate as he has very little power there. I am hoping Trump wins and takes Ted with him.
Could it be...............no, not possible,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,well,...........maybe
MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN?
No, I didn't say that.
Donald is in this just for Donald, no one else.
He doesn't care what kind of America his kids and grandkids grow up in.
Forger I even mentioned it.
Exactly right- This has been my position for a month. Same words- stalking horse.
Yup.
Yup. Trump at top spot for one term. Cruz picks it up for another two as Prez. Easy peezy.
