Here are five things I learned about the Trump constituency:--They view Trump as different from all the other presidential candidates. Hes not just their favorite candidate. Their tie to him is almost mystical. Hes a kind of political savior, someone who says what they think.
--They love the Trump swagger and attitude. Luntz asked what they liked the most, the Trump persona or his policies. Persona got 23 votes, policies six.
--They cut Trump an enormous amount of slack. They are quite forgiving. They were given a list of 21 negatives about Trump and asked to pick the seven they thought were legitimate. Around 10 of the group by my rough count said they couldnt come up with seven. The negatives that got the most votes were his previous support for a single-payer health care system, his support for gun control, and his comment that the economy did better under
--The intensity of their feelings about Trump was striking. It was noticeable in how they spoke of him in contrast with their view of members of Congress as useless.
--For nearly an hour, Luntz played clips of Trump from TV. The focus groupies were asked to move a dial between zero if turned off by Trump, 100 if thrilled, and 50 if neutral. More often than not they hit 100 or came close. Trumps tackling a man ringside at a WWF match?
What did I conclude from all this? One thing stood out: Trump has a solid base of support that wont soon fade away. Those who think otherwise are kidding themselves.

“I’m sure it wouldn’t be hard to give card spots to the other candidates..
somehow the King belongs to Ted Cruz..
Be careful for what wish for. I’ve seen this rodeo before. I live in CA. We had a recall election here a few years ago that succeeded in ousting an incumbent Democrat governor. The man riding on a white horse was an actor named Arnold. People loved him. He wasn’t a politician. He spoke his mind. He was unscripted. He had no track record. Like DT, he was a nominal Republican few ties to the Party establishment. He was even married to a Kennedy (the first red flag IMHO). Like DT, he sounded like a conservative on the campaign trail but had a lot of liberal positions. But people thought he was a breath of fresh air because he wasn’t a career politician. Like DT he had near universal name ID and personal resources. Some compared Arnold to RR because was an actor who later became a Republican governor of CA. But RR was a movement conservative. DT and Arnold were never movement conservatives. They campaigned against the establishment even though both are very much part of the establishment. I didn’t drink the Kool Aid back then. I voted for the tried and true conservative, (and yes professional politician) Tom McClintock in the primary. And after nearly eight years of Arnold as governor, I don’t have a single regret. Should DT actually win the WH, the people who will be most disappointed will be movement conservatives. DT like Arnold is a populist, not a movement conservative like RR. There should be pause for concern and a close examination of all of his past policy positions and political contributions including those to the Clintons. DT should be held accountable for all his past actions and held accountable to the same standards as anyone else seeking the office of POTUS.
Yes. Once again.
With Zero he could just go on and on about all the free stuff he was going to give people (Democrat people anyway) and only a few small righty voices pointed out that nothing is free. The media just lavished praise.
The Democrat Motto: Rob from Republicans and Give to Democrats.
The mainstream media, GOPe, RINO and ‘RAT playbook: If your attacks on a conservative political target are ineffective shift your attacks to the political target’s supporters.
Barnes is simply following the CINO book. I’m glad to see he’s as perplexed and befuddled as the remainder of the ruling elite’s establishment mouthpieces.
As Governor, Arnold did put a series of reforms as ballot initiatives in 2005 (propositions #74, #75, #76) regarding teacher tenure, union dues for political propositions, budget spending limits, and other topics.
These were all rejected, as they did not reach the required 2/3 majority. But it’s not because Arnold didn’t make the effort.
Not everything Arnold did was bad.
But he was far from being a movement conservative.
Like Jerry Brown, Arnold is a big supporter of the Globull warming agenda.
Gee, I thought he was for Repealing and Replacing Obamacare just like the Republicans have been saying for the last three Years? All talk, no action, yawn.
Single Payer? I don’t have Trumps statement handy, but he has said that he wants a Private Sector Solution to replace Obamacare. Competition over State Lines has been the Republican Battle Cry for Years and it never happened.
He does think that all Americans should have access Healthcare coverage, but we already have that with Obamacare and it is out of control.
Do people really think we can just eliminate Obamcare and leave Millions without any Coverage? As I’ve asked before, what Entitlement once implemented has been rescinded, ever?
Doesn’t matter, the Democrats will get Congress back in 2016 anyway so it will only get worse no matter who is Elected President.
I’m sure Bernie and Lieawatha will do their best though.
Fred, I’m not political analyst but I think the natives are restless.
The establishment wants you to go back to being a Bushie..... because, what they want you to ignore or what they have to dish out is better than Trumps.
“As Ive asked before, what Entitlement once implemented has been rescinded, ever?”
When has anyone ever made a serious attempt?
Should we just never try because we might fail? If that is really the attitude people have, then let’s stop all this nonsense right now, fold up the conservative movement and go home, because it’s pointless if we won’t even try to accomplish our goals.
Just asked the question for a Historical reference.
I grew up hearing from my Father, “Nobody owes you a living, so shut up and get back to work”. I had an Aunt who lost her Sight and still worked sewing Garments in a Brooklyn Sweat Shop. She did what she had to do and didn’t ask anyone for anything.
Nowadays, people think they are entitled simply because they breathe and that includes Illegal Invaders. Democrats reinforce their beliefs. Look at Bernie and the 27,000 People that come to listen to his nonsense.
If it wasn’t tried before when people had some pride and self sufficiency, it will never happen now. There has to be a Societal Change and if you don’t control Education and the Media, it will never happen. Doesn’t mean I join the crowd. I just try to appeal to people’s common sense.
“If it wasnt tried before when people had some pride and self sufficiency, it will never happen now.”
Certainly not with that attitude it won’t.
I've always viewed abortion and school vouchers as the most important public policy issues. But you're right, the media is right up there as well.
Amen.
Bingo. I agree completely. And the only way the uni-party can stop him is to impeach him at some point after he is elected. Think about it... removing a president in this day and age is impossible because the parties are so evenly balanced. But removing a president that the leadership of both parties hates is probably doable.
Are the Barnies trying to mock and belittle Trump supporters?
