Deadly shooting during live TV news report in Va.

A gunman killed a reporter and videographer for a CBS affiliate in Virginia in a shooting that was broadcast live Wednesday morning.

Alison Parker and Adam Ward, a reporter and cameraman for CBS Roanoke affiliate WDBJ-TV, died in the shooting, Parker's mother confirmed to CBS News.

WDBJ-TV reports that deputies from Franklin County and Bedford County were on the scene.

The shooting happened at Bridgewater Plaza in Moneta, Virginia.

Roanoke Police spokesman Scott Leamon also said officers had been posted at the other television stations and media outlets around the city. “It’s just a precaution,” Leamon said.

Well gee, the gunman did know where these reporters would be that early in the morning....... Next logical thought it that he had inside information.

I’m not proud to admit I’ve seen more than a few of these types of videos, and the person who is shot often doesn’t run after being shot. Unless you’re military or police and are conditioned to comprehend these situations, a gun shot wound is often shocking. She didn’t expect this. She was likely shot while fleeing.

She had just done a story on child abuse ..... maybe related, maybe not. Could also have been a stalker .... or just some random nut job. Facebook post by her boyfriend with pics - he’s heartbroken, of course.

Those jobs are hard to get and easy to lose because there are so many people vying for them. He also may have a crush on the reporter and went off because she moved in with someone.

Local CBS news station WDBJ has confirmed that reporter Alison Parker and cameraman Adam Ward have died
Vicki Gardner, the local chamber of commerce director, was also shot in the back and was taken to the hospital for emergency surgery
