You’d think they’d take an introspective look at why he’s resonating with the rank-and-file to the extent he is, and perhaps examine their own priorities. Agreed.
But also, you'd think that they would look at WHY Trump refused to raise his hand on this issue in the 1st debate: because he KNOWS that they won't play fair with him. Thus, he (being a great negotiator) isn't going to give up his trump card (pun intended) to force those corrupt bastards to play at least somewhat fair. This very proposal demonstrates beyond any doubt that the GOPe is STILL not willing to be fair - they want what they want, and will stop at nothing to get it...which only FURTHER ENFURIATES THE GRASS ROOTS.
GOPe, you should take heed - play fair, and show that you ACTUALLY are listening (i.e. change your ways), or the tidal wave will drown you.

The GOPe should think this thru. If they try to change the rules and cheat Trump out of the nomination. The GOPe will lose the presidency and possibly house and senate. They would be much better off with Trump as prez and holding both houses, than being under the thumbs of Dems.

It's also like the National Popular Vote scheme to get around the Electoral College. That is a loyalty pledge to vote for the national winner who is not known to you when you cast your individual vote.
