A former White House fellow has a unique proposal to take affirmative action to a whole new level. He wants to give votes cast by African-Americans a greater weight than those cast by non-blacks.
So much for “one man, one vote.”
“Racial reconciliation is impossible without some kind of broad-based, systemic reparations,” career Naval officer and PhD candidate Theodore R. Johnson wrote in The Washington Post. “But if a pecuniary answer can’t fix the structural disadvantage — and it can’t — what can?”
Johnson proposes that each black vote count as five-thirds of a vote, flipping around the old constitutional provision that counted slaves as three-fifths of a person.
Johnson thinks this is going to bring the races together?
“A five-thirds compromise would imbue African Americans with a larger political voice that could be used to fight the structural discrimination expressed in housing, education, criminal justice and employment,” he wrote. “Allowing black votes to count for 167 percent of everyone else’s would mean that 30 million African American votes would count as 50 million, substituting super-votes for the implausible idea of cash payments.”(continued)

I wish i had a time machine so could send these schmucks back in time to convince the constitution convention to count slaves as a full person when aportioning seats in the house then return to current times to sbow them what a worse mess they made of history as they may very well still be slaves.

More “slave state” and “free state” than just N vs S. One goal of the Constitution was to put an end to slavery, which was mostly legacy British. Limiting Southern political power was part of the plan, as was setting a goal of 100 years so that estate ownership might age-out.
Most people, blacks especially, fail to see how 3/5 benefited blacks.

Well, if they do that then I can self-identify as black and make my vote count more! In fact, all non-blacks can do that and then the effect will be cancelled out.
That way the only way to get richer is to work.
Probably not. I have actually tried to explain this before and don’t think I had much success.
We’d need picture ID cards with a breakdown of black, hispanic, Islander, Native American, all the little distinctions on the census form, to sort it all out and really be fair. The ID card would state how many shares, or votes, you got. Pure Native American would be at the top, “white” at the bottom (not Caucasian because Spanish and Mexicans and Arabs are, technically, all “Caucasian”)
Well, gee...then they can vote themselves all kinds of goodies from the US Treasury. How convenient!
Way things look, it’ll eventually come to that anyway. But hopefully not in my lifetime.
